A Vir ginian, on his way to the north to embark for Central America, had with him a female slave nod ber two.-tong. On being informed that by the laws of the state she was free, the woman expressed her design to obtain freedom. The master made some opposition, but the woman's newly-found friends being strong enough over came every obstacle and succeeded just as the boat was leering the wharf, in placing the wo man and her children in a carriage, and drove off with her amid the cheers of the crowd that had been drawn together by the occurrence.
