Mr. Daniel Oilman, and others, passengers
from New Orleans, on the steamer Nteglare, that
arrived last night, that there was a great deal of
fatal sickness among the puseogers on the trip,
malting in eight deaths. The fatality was con
fined to the deck pudengere, mostly coal boat
men, who riled soon after they. were attacked,
having_the usual symptoms of yellow foyer, with
their bodies and hoes covered with yellow
splotches.' •

by mu, doub p ted it, and imputed the e fa
tality to intemperance„and indiscretion on the
part of the sufferers, one of whom, at least, had
an atteelvelt - dethiunt tremens,-and while in- Gust'
condition died. The yellow. fever, se, yet, in
New Orlearis, has not been very fatal, and but
alight mention has been made in,:the papers.—

Of the aliens several were Pittsburgh

But a few days ago a change came o'er the spirit

stumbled over a fallen tree of discord that had
been blown upon their path by some evil genius.
John resorted to the bottle—that deoeptivo con

broken hearts. John, in fact, got drunk, and
very foollubly, orvery drunkenly, which is the

of thelarrat class, on the stocks in the - boat
yard of kessrs. Copt, Miltikea & Co., on the
left beat of tne Youghiogheny, began to slide
down from the stocks, and with terrible force
struck the ground, breaking her , keel and a num
ber of her sibs and other timbers, Two work
men being at the time under her, escaped 'mir
aculously with some slight injuries only; several
others on the boat' were hurt more or less, but
none dangerously. The high stage of the water
had underminded part of the ground, which yield
ad to the pressure of the blocks, and caused the
accident. . .
The loss of the boat builders is very heavy.
It will vequire more than a week to raise the
boat oo stooks - main; so that the workmen may
repair the serions_damages.

RAILICOAD. —We were informed last evening that
the flange of one of the.wheels of the locomo
tive of the mail train which left Allegheny yes
terday morning at eight o'clock, broke at a
point. six miles this side of Enon Valley. The
locomotive ran off the trash and was turned up
side down and smashed into a complete rgeek.
The baggage car, shared a like fate. The bag
gagemisater, whose name we did not learn, was
very seriously injured and his life was despaired
of.

Mayor's Police, host' night about nine o'clock.
arrested William McCoy at East Liberty, brought
him to the city and placed him in the Watch
Rouse. McCoy is the accomplice of Eggleston,
the ringleader of the notorious bead of despera
does who carried on extensively in Peebles
Township last spring: Eggleston is now serving
out his sentence. There is an indictment pend
ing against McCoy.

, Tendon rust at Lexington, hio., on the 13th, and
was attended by a large number of delegates.
After a temporary organisitlon Senator Atchison
and Col. Doniphan were called upon to address
the Meeting, but declined.. Other gentlemen ad
dressed"-the meeting, expressing themselves in
favor of establishing slavery in Kansas by all
lawful means. •
The Convention was permanently organised
by the choice of W. T. Wood as presiding
officer.
Resolutions were introduced requesting the
Legislature of Missouri to pass eats of retelliation
against the Bates of Massachusetts, Vermont
and Michigan, disommtenancing the use of the
products of those Bates.
President Shannon of the University, by invi.
tstion, delivered an address, letting forth Bible
arguments in favor of slavery; his speech was
very ultra and caused much excitement, some of
his propositions were strongly objected to.
The Convention was still in session at the last
accounts.
Btairsui, N. Y., July 18.—We have s full ito•
count of the hinging of the man Maybut7, by a
mob atJanesville; li r istionsin last week. It ap
pears that the prisbner bad beim found guilty by
Judge Doolittle, but the law only prescribes im
prisonment for life. The Sheriff undertook to
remove the prisoner from the court house to the
jail,- but he with his posse bad scarcely got out
of the court house when the cry arose, "Hang
him! bang him!"
The officers were then completely overpowered
by the crowd, the prisoner seised, a rope placed
around his neck, and, notwithstanding his awful
shrieks and prayers, they dragged him to a clus
ter of trees and hung him till dead. A band of
three hundred men had been organized to execute
the deed. Tile greatest excitement pervaded
Hock Ither for over one hundred miles.
Purcanzartna, July 17.—The accident on the
West Chester Railroad yesterday , was oecasioned
by the falling of the bridge in the course of
erection over Ridley's Creek. The =malty oc.
curred about one o'clock; and the structure fell
as the men were commencing work. Twelve
men were engaged on the work, eve of whom
Went down with the bridge; three were instantly
killed and the other two so seriously Injured that
their lives are despaired of. .
