A communication was received from B. F. Jos , lin, M. D., on the "Advancement of Medical Science, and especially on Homeopathy outsider -led improveable." The communication was received, as it deserved, most cordially and en thusiastically; it was a logical, eloquent and in structive production, marked by ill the euellen cies so peouliir teethe argumentative papers em anating from the pen of Dr. Austin. Dr. Humphreys gave Some recent experience in scarlet fever. He stated that a peculiarly malignant type of this disease had prevailed in 'the neighborhood of the Doctor's residence due big the eying. The Doctozistated as the result of his experience that during periods of continued depression of the barometric column, the vital forces seem to be correspondingly depressed; if epidemics exist, they are exacerbated and height ened in • lice degree; and if therebe no epidem "7o form of disease existing, the tendency to acute forms of diocese is increased, end a general low geade of vitality seems to preivall. B ac h was o n con :meson of things in the le ali ty named during the past spring, and during this period soiriet fever made Its appearance among the children-of the neighborhood, and soon as sumed an unnaturafmalignite. The indications weie entirely. different from those usual in scar let fever, and required different treatment. The eruption was not developed, or only partially so; there was general nuanize, the ciroubstion wail nearly , inappreciable, and congestion, convul sions and paralysis succeeded in thirteen or fourteen hours; death soon put an end to the suf fering. The usual remedies did not meet the indicstion% and the Doctor recommends cam phor in drop doses. The hillaorits 'tiger had been somewhat used with success, but the cam phor, was the reliable agent. The committee on scientific subjects reported the following committees:—Cholers, N. IL Warn er,Buffalo; Mechanical Supports, L W. Ward, Piladelphia; Small Pox, Richard Gardiner, Philadelphia; Diseases of the Respiratory Organs, L T. Talbot, Boston; Herpes and hindered dis eases, A. Robinson, Auburn; Medical Educa tion, L. Dodge, Cleveland, and Wm. A. Gardiner, Philadelphia. The committee on the case of Dr. Humphreys them reported at length. They but found that Dr. Humphreys was engaged in the preparation and vending of remedies for diseases by name; that these remedies consisted (with only one ex ception) of several medicines mingled in the eame 'packages. They find the practice totally in opposition to all principles of Homeopathic eel enee,_ and to the principles governing medical men in the practice of medicine. They there. fore, in resolution, recommend the expulsion of Dr..Hamphreys from the American Institute of Homcepatby. The reaolution was debated at length and finalliadopted.
