noon of last Thursday, the body of a young man
aged about sixteen years, was found In s deep
ravine, on the farm of Joseph Brownlee, Esq.,
In Hopewell township, in the vicinity of West
Middletown. -...The name of the deeessed was
John drihnskin; ion of Henry Johnston, a tenant
residing cot the farreof Mr. Brownlee. He bad
been in.the employ of Mr. B. for something more
than a month, engaged in attending to hie stock.
On the evening of Hut 17th day of January last,

envered from the morning of the 18th of January.
An hionest was held andn verdict rendered of
death from cause unknown. It is supposed by
some, that he was partially. intoxicated at the

On Friday night of last. week as we are informed,
a minims frozen to death in the vicinity of Het
lersburg. up the Allegheny river. He had been
drinking; and was found in the morning stand
ing on ibis bands and feet like a quadruped,
frozen stiff. We did not learn his name.

Both houses of Congress continued in' session
until after eleven c'clook last night. A spirited
debate': occurred in the Senate on the reduction
of the .Tariff, embraced in the Civil and Diplo-'
medic Bill. Messrs. Broadhead, Clayton, Sew
ard and others objected. Mr. Chilton moved to
strike out all relating to the tariff; the vote was
finally taken on the motion and negatived by a
vote of 22 to 24, after which the Senate 'ad
joinned. .
The House resumed the considerition of , the ,
Army Appropriation Bill, when the Senate's
amendments, adding two regiments Of infantry
and two and a half millions, and the appointineat
of an additional Brigadier General passed in Com
zoittee and was reported to the House.

A joint resolution was read directing the
President to advance Clark Mills $5OOO oat of
the $50,000 fund for the erection of the intim
trian statue of Washington.
The Civil and Diplomatic Appropriation Bill
was taken uP.
Mr. Cooper opposed the Tariff amendment in
a brief speech, on emotion to reconsider the vote
ref last evening rejecting Mr. Clayton's amend
ment to strike out the tariff modification—yeas
25 nays 19.
Mr. Clayton's amendment to strike from the
Appropriation Bill all that relates to the Tariff.
Agreed to, yeas 29, nays 21.
The Senate then proceeded to examine items
of the Civil and Diplomatic Appropriation Bill
and consider the amendments suggested in Com
mittee Of the Whole by Mr. Ranter, Chairman
of the Committee and others, until 34 o'clock,
when the Senate took a recess until 6.
Before taking up this Bill a Committee of Con
ference-of the two heuses reported the Indian
Appropriation BBL -Concurred in. -
The Bill to carry into effect a convention on
the subject-of claims between us and England
was read a third time and passed.

Mmes.—The House non-soncUrred in the Sen
ate's amendment appropriating $30,000 to the
purchase of camels for the army, and agreed to
the amendment adding tone regimentoof regu
lars for defence of the frontiers, and authorizing
the appointment of another Brigadier General
with an appropriation of two millions and a half
dollars to carry this provision into effect.
The proceedings of the Howie were dull on the
Sentiteir imendmenti to various Appeopriation -
Bllls. There was a recess until seven P. M.
Mr. Olds reported a BM establishing a large

House natwedio the consideration of the Senate's
amendments to the Army Appropriation Bill. ,

al Society after a protracted debate passed reso
lutions calling on the agriculturists at the whole
country to meet in convention at Washington in
February next to determine for themselves what
legislation is necessary for their preservation.

accepting an invitation to several public institu
tions, adjourned.
In the evening a large number of members
called on Senator Clayton to thank him for tak
ing a position in the Senate in behalf of Agri
