when they armed at this city they were all sick,
half-naked and halfretarred. Their acquaintan
ces, who were also extremely poor, receiTed
them into their in Allegheny, where the
ladies of the Benerdent Society found them.
The children were the most aereroly affected by
the sufferings which they had undergone. Their
heads were swelled to twice their natural cue;
and it was at first thought they were attacked by
tho measles. It prosed, howerer, to bo an crop
tire disease, caused solely by cold and starvation.

they would bo moire comfortable. The cortices
of proper attendants were also procured. Bat
the delicate forms of tho little sufferers had ei
- perienced too serero .shock. On Sunday, the
28th. two of them were boned. Another day
of last week saw two more laid In the silent
wraro. Thanka to tho exertions of the physi
clcns and others, the rest hays been spared and
are now in a fair way of recorery-oxcepl one
of tho men, who seems most heroically to barn
depriTodhimself offood doting his journey from
Now York, in order to supply the wants ofhis
little ones. Ho has been taken to the Western
Ponnsyltanin Hospital, but his rooorery is

Tbe remaining nino children have been adopt
ed by different German families residing in the
neighborhood. We did not learn what disposi
tion has been made of the other adolts. We
hope; however, that their follow-countrymen in
that quarter of the city will folly attend to all
their wants and assist them to obtain employ
ment, if possible. .
