proposed National, Contention to be held at the

the following preamble and resolutions were
unanimously. adopted:

of country, we recur with pleasure to the scenes
when our strong anus now weakened from age
and infirmity, were raised in defence of our
common inheritance to commemorate what the
war of Independence bat so wisely begun, vas

Ir. Rockwell presented it petition from David
Lean, Abbot Lawrence, and others, asking an
sppropristion for the Massachusetts Society, in
behalf of shipwrecked 'mariners on thtteastern
coast.
Mr. Fah presented e petition from the mer
chants of Now York, for aid to on expedition to
the Northern Seas in search of Dr. Kano.
Mr. Cams gave notice that at a future day he
should move that the Senate adopt Mr. Under
wood'e resolution, and call the attention of the
President thereto, eulogising Napoleon for his
sentiments in reference U religious liberty.
Mr. Broadhead made an eloquent appeal in be
half of his resolution for ending a steamer to
the Arctic Sees in search of Dr. Sane. . Passed
Mr. Pettit made a report from the Judiciary
Committee, that the House Bill concerning the
11. B. land.: at Cincinnati pass. Passel.,
Mr. Broadhead reported a Bill bitterer of John
E. Wool, and reccommended its passage. Passed.
Mr. Broadhead- moved that so much of the
President's tnesago, as related to naval matters,
be referred to the Committee on Naval Affairs.
.The Senate then adjourned..
liouse.—Mr. Phelps, from the Committee of
Ways and Means, reported s bill making appro
priations for naval . eervice for the year ending
June 80th, 185 G.
'Sir. Houston from the same Committee repor
ted a bill making appropriations for fortifications
and other works •of defence, and the repairs of
barracks end quarters for a period.
Both were referred toe ComMittee of the
whole on the State of the Union.
. The Rouse then went into a Committee of the
Whole on the State of the Unfon, on business
pertaining to the District of Columbia.
Potions bills relating to the-District of Colum
bia were considered but-not - finally acted on.
Mr. Bailey gave notice of bin intention to move
the taking up of the French Spoliation Bill on
the 16th of January next.
The House then adjourned.

adjourned yesterday afternoon to meet again on

of 30 since yesterday. More than two-thirds of
