, SV,ISZD Gtess.—The staining of glass for
churches and for other ornamental purposes, so
mach in vogue in ancient times, had fallen so
=Leh bite disuse that the art was supposed by
some to be lost. It has lately beearevived, both
in Europe and America, and now, promises to be
more universally adopted than ever before. No
'mode of admitting a soft and pleasant light into
churches, and the halls and principal rooms of
private dwellings, accompanied with a highly
•artistical and ornamental effect, is equal to this.
For churches . it is especially desirable; and
where human figures aid excessive ornament
are not required, it is cheaper than ordinary

very appropriate, and- produces a highly orris-

criminal in this co'e is W. P. Sackett, receiving
teller of the Market Bank; and the amount of
his frond is $25,000 The discovery was made
by the assistant receiving teller, who having ac
cidentally occasion to add up the columns of the
deposite book, discovered that the footings wore
too small by $25,000. The money, it is under
stoat has been spent in high living, betting on
races, and stock speculations. The manner in
which he concealed his pecnlations since they
became of a respectable amount, was by errone
ous footings of his deposits book, and forcing
the figures on the last day of each month, when
the general balance of the account was made,
so that the general ledger account would balance
with the dealer's lodger.
The entries in thedeposit-book were the cor
rect amounts, but the footings were made as
much less than the actual additions of the col
umns as would equal the amount of the abstrac
tions.. These abstroions have been going on, it
is supposed, for two years past. Sackett has
lived at Yonkers, in good style, keeping his ser—
vants and horses. His connections are very re
spectete, and he has a young wife and child.—
flisbonds are $lO,OOO, which, it is thought, are
good, which will reduce the loss of the Bank to
$15.000. When examined by the Directors ho
admitted his guilt, and stated that if he bad not
been discovered ho had intended to abstract
$20,000 more. lie has not been arrested. We
sincerely trust that this is the last of these la
mentable instances of dishoneity which we shall
be called upon to chronicle. •
