If the Accommodation train had been an instant

This classification will convey ae definite at
ideaof the political position of the men elected
as any other that could be adopted. A few of
the same men designated in the present Cc.c
gems no independents, or Democrats, arc de
nominated coalition Whigs in the columns for
thd neit Congress. This is the case with Gid
dings and Wade of Ohio, anti others. All the In
-del?endnanct..lll gut,rosew Nothings will act
with the Whigs and fusionists against the Demo
crate, on occasions of real Importance, as in the
electifin of Speaker, and the restoration of thd
"Missouri Compromise. For such purposes then
is already a clear majority of the whole House.
For after deducting the sin Missouri Whigs we
shall have 122 members. The States to elect at
"the North, tre New Hampshire, lthode Island and
Connecticut. They will send eight Whigs and
coalitionists and one Doughface. This will raise
the Northern anti-administramajority to
120, thirteen over all opposition. What changes
may come in the meantime over ttka, pirit of
the South we. cannot anticipate, aura is pos
sible that we nay have some additions to the
list in the first columns from the slave States,
but it is not ad citable to reckon upon any of
from that source. I retain the opinion which
I formed on the l instant that I saw the South
uniting in - support 'of that unparalleled see
tiouni aggression, the repeal of the Missouri
Conipromiie, that the next House would be
land ought to be organised; on a sectienal basis,
as the only means of .letence left .to the North
from farther attacks. It need tint appal us that
the South will array herself in "consolidated
strength against es. She always has done so,
and thereby Inagoverned Congress. We must
now begioxhe great work of ••ciushing Out" our
domestic traitors„ omr,Dottglassea, Olds, and
Richardsou. Case, think Heaven, is dead,
Dodge, Bright and Pettit are disarmed. Their'
fangs are drawn. We have gained great and
permanent advantages in the campaign which has
just closed. Notwithstanding all that has been
"aid to the contrary, Illinois as well as Michigan,
- ,l . lMConsin, lowa, Indiana, and Ohio, have repn
diated the , spurious Democracy. It is rooted out
there. The'voice of the greatNorth-Weat, youth s
ful, vigorous and 'virtuous, has been given fur
freedom. That mighty andadvancingsectina into
be the bulwark. of American. republican liberty.
Without commercial connexions with the . South,
without any r sort of political dependence upon ,
slavery, the' geneption rising to fill the places of
the pioneers from the East nod South will be in-
formed by oneLsentiment, that of hatred for
I. • ..an bondage and contempefor its defenders.
The . openitig of the next. Congress will be the
dawn of a 'new era in the history of Federal
legislation.
. Ido not know that an official confirmation ham
been received of the revocation of the edict ex
cluding
.Mr. Soule frowk the soil of France, but
there is no doubt of the fact, and that matter
which;6.9 of very little consequence in the be
ginning,' is now happily settled, even before the
termination . of- the nine days assigned by pre
scription to such marvel,.
The Secretary of the Trendury Is resolved to
urge his plan for tariff reform upon Congress at
the ensuing , session. ; Its success is more then
doubtful. In the predent distressed state of the
country, eyesight+ most radical will .esitste long .
.before removing that' measure of protection to
doiaestic industry., - Wffich appears o be the only
barrier 1 114 . 1thibt.611 inundatian of fo gn fabrics
which must in the cad reduce us to 'condition
of mere commercial dependencies o European ,.
countries.
The imports of the last fiscal year are estimT:
ted at $ 220 ,000,000, and the expoits of domes

made up by exports of gold load stocks. The
greet item of breadstuffs and provisions . will
have no piece in the expotsfof the present year.
'That of "don will bo greatly diminished. Our
stocks ate . coming 1.44, and, of cour s e that
source of cre4it will be dried up for several years
to come, that is to say, until we have paid up out
of our savings what we owe
And yet in the -face of this gloomy prospect,
the imports are but slightly less this year than
during the last correspoinling amnion of over
