The Bea is.bremking over the Chip, and it is likely

before morning. Capt. Henry was caged in the

dred passengers are clinging to-the rigging It
is doubtful whether theshig will hold together
until morning. The ship went on chore at tight
o'clock this morning, owing to a dense fog.

The ship is settling nearly level with the sea,

At a meeting of thb passengers of the Yankee
Made, ramolution.s were adopted attributing sheer
negligence as the cause of the wreck, and censu
ring Captain Randall for deserting the wreck,
arid the agent of the line for not forwarding the
passengers to New York. The committee ap
pointed to receive subscriptions for presenting a
gold watch to Quinn, the third officer also was
the laid to leave the wreck, as an evidence of
their appreciation of hiaconduct, have reported
favorably.

Great excitement existed still in regard to the
Meiggs frauds, and the apprehension of Smythe
Clark, late Mayor's clerk, who is charged with"
haling unlawfully. detained in his hands sums
amounting to $800,000: He is in custody. An
exatnination has taken place without a satisfac
tory explanation no to mach of the missing funds.
Hamilton Bowie, late city Treasurer, has also
been arrested, charged with haring fraudulently
taken away books, papers and money*belonging
the Treasury; in particular the sum of $331.1,-
000 in city. warrants, whichremained unaccount
ed for by him. His defence was that the newly
elected Treasdrer had not complied with the re
quisites of the law, hence the withholding of the
warrants: The case has not been decided.
Screraf shocks of an earthquake were felt at
S.in Francisco ou the 21st.
The 23d of November has teen appointed for
Thanksgiving.
Efforts have been made by divers to recover
the treasure from the Yankee Blade, without
success. No trace had been found of the hulk,
which had drifted to shore, leaving the engines
where the ship had sunk, in about 11-fathoms of
water.

Clark a total majority of 1706.,

Taking as a basis the table of the Times, of this
morning, which shows .279 majority for Clark,
we now figure out a majority for Seymour of 407.
Nearly-every return differs more or less from the
first received. The majority therefore will doubt
less fluctuate from one side to the other until
every county is received.

out of a difficulty between the Priest and St.
Jeseplia Society concerning a banner. Legal
measures had recalled in favor of the Societl,
and the kr,lest yesterday stated that there were

not proceed with the service. Tha Priest with
drew and a tight ensued amonget the congrega
tion, four of whom were arrested.
