Letter final the Javan Expedition.
The`Nair York Tribune has an interesting let
from n correspondent, on board the.Tapan
squadron, givitig one month.later details of the
movements of the expedition. We make the fol
hawing extracts:
U. SITAXIM POWWITAN,
Olf Cape Sing, (Island of Niphon) May 14;
-• I antobliged, from *ant of time, to give you
!Ant a brief report of 011 r .doings for the past
• month. after the diplomatic negotiations in
Yokelamme were concluded, the- survey of the
',hey tem Vigorously carried on,. and inspite'ot
rough and stormy weather, made good progress„
On the Gth of April the Saratoga fired her salute
of departure, and sailed, amid hearty . cheers from
the remaining vessels of the squadron.
Before the fleet went down to Bimoda, (one of
the ports designated in the treaty as open to
American ships,) the Commodore desired to
'have a view of Yedo, which desire mot with great
opposition on the part at the Japanese, who were
struck with nerror at the prospects of our five
wheel ships - anchdrieg under the walls of the
Imperial Palace. As the Commodore remained
firm in his purpose - some ,of them declared 'that
the dropping of the anchor under the walls of
the former would be the signal for their own dis
embowelment. We were all not a little excited,
Iwhen, on the morning of the Bth of April, the
ships got nnder way.- —Yanske, the chief inter
.preter With - some other Japanese, werean board
the flag ship. they looked haggard andelarm
ed as we steamed up the bay. Youske, esnetlial
ly, was petrified with alarm, and frequently said,
"1)e you really intend to .rentein in Yedo? Oh,
no: Commodore Perry has a good heart; he car
tally will not do so. "
itood nems the bay, and then, at a die,
tones Of three miles .from ,shore made directly .
up toward the Imperial city. Atout 10 o'clock
we bad the light-house of. iloirastioki abeam,- on
• e left hand, while before np, on a long semi=
eircularline, stretched the white helms of Yedo.
-At the light-house Commenced the suburb •of
Sitietlawal 'further towards the city were many
large .junke at anchor ;:behind them, a great
many entailer craft, while crowds of fishing boats
and junks of all sizes covered the bay. A mound
-or eminence, towered above the houses of the

The accounts from Asia are precisely such as
