B. Tpdike exhibited one buoh of Black Hamburgli

Wm. L. Link, Jaines. Carvill anti James Mc
ptinald. members of the night Polic - e, were arres
ted cis Tuesday evemieg •by officer McCoy,- and
taken before 'Alden= Major, ens charge of
assault and battery, and the larceny Uf n pocket
book containing about $2270, on' oath 'of Wm. - J.
McMinn. -It appears that Link - m companrwith
the two other watchmen: went to the house cf
deponent on Washington street,, about seven q'=
clock in the evening of Tuesday, and stated to
McMinn; that he (Mohnen) had passed a coun
terfeit bill on hint. McMinn replied thathe was
not aware of having done anything of the kind,
but that if he 'Link would go •before Alderinan
Major, and Do qualified that he had done so, be
,(McMinn) would redeem the note at once,and
give him another in exchange. The gentemen
Tensed, stating that they were the °Slayer's of
firers, awl that they had a right to arrest . him
and didn't care ad--+n for Squire Major." .
They then commenced an attack upon Mc-
Minn and his wife,ln which all participated.ln
the midst of the fuse, McMinn went to his trunk
and took from it a pocket book containing. as he
alleges, =gin notes,.together with some silver
change, the araoMit of *lsich..he does not recol
lect, for the purpose of giving Link o three dol
lar bill in oxcltangelor the bad one, rather than
have any further difficulty about it. At this
juncture of affairs, the neighbors were attracted
to the house, by the noise, and prevented Mc-
Minn from giving Link the bill and ordered the
officers to'leave the house, and upon their refire
ing fo do so, put them out instantly. In the Me
lee, the picket book and money were taken end
are supposed in be in the bands of 'some of the
officers. Theparties were held to bail for fur
ther hearibg on Wednesday at 2, et which
hour they brought up for examination. A
number of witnesses were examined, whose tes
timony corroborated the statement above given
in every particular. The alderman held the de- ,
fendauts to bail in $lOOO each, to answer charg
es of assaultand battery andlarceny, at the next
term of the Criminal Court.

American Protestant Association Lodges in the
State of New Jersey, mostly composed of Leith
men, took place yeeterday. Nearly 2000 per
