• myself made a post mortem examination of the
demised yesterday; we found a My extensive
abscess in the thigh; the - wound which Cannon
had •• received was not necessarily fatal in its
. character; the large abscess was formed in con
sequence of the wound, and the man died from
• the effects of the discharge from the abscess;
the wound was dressed in the way physician
generally dress such wounds; think that the
abscess was formed owing to the man's peculiar
constitution; he told me that be bad an abacus
at one time in his leg; think the deceased
must bare been predisposed to the formation- of
abscesses; thedereased was attended by me from
the time he entered the Hospital until tho let of
July, when he was _taken charge of by Dr.
. Dr. M. K. 'Trevor, sworn: .My term of service
it the...hospital commenced on the let of July;
found the deceased suffering from an abscess ex
tending from the knee to the groin, involving the
entire substance of the thigh; the discharge from
that time was of a very unhealthy character,
and the patient was in a sinkingundition; about
two weeks before his death, the abscess formed
an opening in the groin, from which a great
quantity of mattermas dischlrged;• the patient
gradually declined from the exhausting effects of
• the discharge until his death; for the last four
Or ire days preceding his death, there wan
, large discharge of coagulated blood from the
• opening in the groin; this discharge of blood and
matter caused the man's death by producing ex
haustion of the entire system; such a wound an
the deceased received is not usually followed by
an abscess, though it would be more likely to be
followed by one , than a wound of another na
bre; ,the deceased was of a scrofulous constitu
tion, and this . is probably the reason why the ab
- 'seas formed in his case.
The testimony cloted here, and thejury,rifter
a short deliberation, rendered a verdict that the
deceased CAM° to his death from the effects of a
wound inflicted by a butcher knife thrown at him

the city yesterday, to the effect that the family
of Capt Randall, Muter of the steamer Clara
Wisher, had been thrown from a buggy, some
miles fre the city, and that Mrs. Randall had
her back broken, while one of her children was

dent was caused by the horse, to which . the bug

The Paris Moniteur announces ' that on .the
7th and Bth of August the French expeditionary
force landed - on the island of Aland r north of the
fortress of Bomarsund, at the same time a foree
-of Inglisliand French marines landed south . of
thefortress. The disembarkation was - covered
by the war steamers, and was effected without a
man getting his feet wet. They then erected
batteries while the Russians destroyed them, and
fell back on the main fortress. On the 12th,
the fortress was completely invested, and on the
14th the French carried redoubt of 8 guns
without losing a man.
Another account says a strong fort.wilit taken;
after seieral, hours fighting: The bombardmen t began on - the 16th. The reports in the English
papers- say that the. inhabitants of Aliutd had
risen against the Russians, and it was proclaim
ed from the pulpits of all the Churches that the
Russian sway over the island had ceased.
The aspect of affairs on the Danube it unchang
ed. The Russians continued to fortifyall drabs
gio points: -
The London Daily News contains a remarka
ble coincidence stating that the British, troops at
the camps at Monaster near Desna, are decemat
nd by a malignant Cholera; that they are desti
tute of medicine and famishing for lack of food;
that they are discontented and almost Ills organ
ised. The Times correspondent partly confirms
the statement.
Prince Paskewitch returned toWarsaw on the
13th and trill again take command. of the south
ern army.
Nothing has been done at Constantinople.
Letters speak of the expedition against Crimea.
