-Soureas .Coutrrr Mess 3ixeriiwi. —A large
and enthusiastic meeting of Independent Demo
crats, was held at the. Forks of Imalsook, in
tullivan County,' on Wednesday of last week.—
The Hon. David Wilmot addressed the meeting
at considerable length. We hays not room for
the proceedings entire, but snake the following
estnmta from the resolutions unanimoialy RAlopt
el on the occasion:
Rasalsed, That the farst work hefore us is to

therefore_ go to work, like practinal vette:, tooled
honest; competent men, who are
„known to be In .
rover of this measure, to all- iffices of responsi

Resolved, That we have .no reason to believe
that GOV. Bigler agrees with us in any point con
nected with the question of Slavery now agitated;
we know ho recommended' the passage of a law
allowing Slave holders to Carry, their slaves
through this state; we know be endorses the Fu
gitive Slave Law which tramples upon our per
sonal rights; we know his el lion would be re
garded in every port of the :Union as a triumph
of the ;linen of slavery, and as those Who are not
for us, in this matter, are emphatically against
qs, we declare Gov.Bigler unworthy our support.
Resokid,. That, inasmuchns Judge Pollock bas
declared explicitly that he is in favor of re-en-:
aitingthe law which prohibited sleepy. in terri
tories north 0f..24! .IW/ north. latitude; :and
else. in-favor of the manumission of any. slaves
illegally held there, he occupies a position so
mach more jest and liberal. than Gov. Bigler,
that,: (without endorsing the cautious address of
the Whig. Central .Committee) we esteem it our
duty to give Judge Pollock our, full and active
support In the coming election.; .
Resolved, That three persons tie appointed by
the President to confer or correspond with Anti-
Nebraska men in other counties of this Congress
ional District; and aster such conference, and
correspondence to recommend , a suitable midi
for Congress to be supported by the people at the

of July a, pitched battle was fought bitween two
parties-of Chinese a: Weaverville. Trinity coun

fed from , a dispute about a small gambling debt;
the controversy ending in a personal encounter,
which aroused a sectional and political difficulty
for a long time existing among them in their
Oriental home. The Herald addsr
The two parties were very unequally divided
on the occasion—one party numbering over 900,
the other lees than 120; the emaller party being
ranch more courageous than the larger ono, and
mot anxious for the fray. Some of the citizens
promised the lesser party • a fair. show in the
fight, and sided with them on account of their
inferiority in numbers...
The two parties were 'stationed on opposite

which they wereta erred from doing by the cit

play. The small party kept in close column;
bravely daring their numerous enemies to make
the charge, as it hnd been agreed to be a hand
to hand conflict
Not succeeding in their inducement, the small.
er party made the charge across the ravine, with
.a terrible bravery and blood-thirsty ferocity,
killing and 'wounding as before stated. They
fought with spears-and large forks made for the
purpose. The greatest utility of the fork was
manifested in only one instance, in pinning a
man-to the ground, leasing him there in agonis
ing death.
The Charge lasted about three minutes, result•
ing in the - entire rout of the .large party, they
being imoubtedly intimidated by the citizens
firing pistols, and throwing stones among them,
All who witnessed the charge agree that it was
of the most desperate character.
