said it in o'er-presence, and with an emphasis
'that pct to flight the efforts of those to , whom it
wne'addreased.' -
. This statement has never been denied, as we
presume it cannot be, being too clearly suscepti
bio of proof.' • It was followed, hewaver, by the
annexed comments in the LiarriOurg Irayalone,
one of the Governor's supporters: -
'We call the especial attentio - of the Siete
Committee to this charge upon t a e Governor, in
order.that they nuty clearly de e his position
in their' forthcoming address up 'tbe principles
7 ,
of non-intervention and pupate - soiereignty as
settled bythe compromise of 1850, and embodied
in - the Nebraska ' and Kansas bill.: - ' There is a
,
mystery in the failure of the convention to des
charge its duty on this great queation that should
be cleared up. A large majority Of the delegates
- were sound upon it, and felt aggrieved-at the
manner in which their voices wec stifled. Mr.
Chase lap the blame upon the °venter, which
affords the committee an excel! nt opportimity
to shoes, that he is as 'honest, * devoted, prudent,
and able' upon this great principle.as he is upon
any - other-that he stand& shoulder to •Shoulder
with the, national democrats whose B reed is the
same in Pennsylvania as in. Virginia and New
Ittnipshire; and with whom the piinciple in•
v.oved in the repeal of the Missouri Compro-
Mise is ' sacred.'” , '
The State Comniittee, as our readers are aware,
Jive responded to this by clearly declaring Gov.
rigler's position to be in favor of the Nebraska
bill, the repeal of the.hlisseuri Compromise and
the estention of Slavery.
;nit will Mr. Chase and. hie Northern Deteo
' cratio friends do? That Gov. Bigler, at the time
of the State Convention, refused to VIM upon a
Nebraska platform is a fact of which no doubt
can be entertained: and that he now dou con
sent to run upon such a platform is equally plain.
How, then, can -any- Anti-Nebraska democrat
support him ? So long as he maintained the po
sition he assumed with the delegates to the State
Convention, refusing to accept a nomination oa_
a platform endorsing the Nebraska hill, the anti-
Slavery Democrats of the northern counties had
scree ehow of rea.son for supporting him ; but I
now that he.has'voluatarily abandoned the stand
then taken, and auffcrcd the State ComMittee to
pledge him as the friend of the most unrighteous
measure of the age, - they can no longer. con
sistently give him theiraid. Be liar taken from.
them the only ground on which they could stand;
and, throwing himself into the arms of his pro-
Slatery champions, delibspately spurns the as
sistance-of all who are not willing to fight under
the black flag of , human oppression.
If David Vflimot'a letter, publithed by us an
Monday, be any indication of Northern feeling,
Gar. Bigler will- live to rue the day, when he
turned his back :man the Democratic cohorts of
the N'orthern counties. - .

The Ma rk. Lane Express has the following re-,
TIM of the crop prospects on the continent
In the Southern counties of Europe the crops.
have been for the most part secured, and the re
ports as to thegeneral result are decidedly fa
vorable. In'ltaly, Portugal and Spain. the yield
is said to be, greater thati - in usual average sett
tons, and the quality fine.
Za"France harvest has not yet . been finished,
mid to 'a .somewhat similar change ' has talon
place there in the weather to that tudortanately
experienced here, some mischief 'may be done to
that pettier' of the corn still ont. In the more
forward departments; the great bulk has, how
ever, been safely secured ; and - though - the: ac
counts aro not so iniformly' favorable as from
Italy and Spain, still the prevailing impression
r.ppears to be that Prance will have full average
crops of wheat and ryi, and we have heard 'of
no serious complaints in regard toother articles.
In Holland the seasons are not much more for- -
small than in this country; and throughout Ger
many reaping is usually commenced about the
41/1110 period attinEngland. The result of the har
vest over the Northern and Eastern parts of Eu
rope may, therefore, be 'said to be as yet doubt
ful; and deitendent on the weather.
The letters from the Baltic, repeat what bas
been iirevionsly assertedia to the almost total ex-.
haustion of stocks; so-little wheat has heen
brought forward at the lower ports, that quoits
tions had become quite nominal. "Hardly any
thing was being shipped, nor *as it expected
that any further exports would take glace until
rupplies of the new crop should - have begun to
come forward. Reaping
to
been pretty-gener
ally commenced,' and up to the period to which
our adricesreach, the Weather but continued fa
vorable. .
Letters from Dantzig of the let inst. inform us
that come quantity of wheat had been out, and
that the prospects for the harvest were consid
ered prom-icing. Beninese in wheat had' been
brought to O - stand, -- the export demand having
whellyeeased.
At Ifambttrg, on 'Tuesday,' heavy rein wiser -

fall in prices, and sellers were lees urgent to
realise than they bad been, the 'Koch before.
From Italy we Learn that the weatber bad

Indian corn crop might be injured by drought.
nib fear hid imparted rather More .firmness to
lee whe at trade.
Wnzar.—The farme.rs baits had their anflot
patione of high priced for, this peek crop so
greatly elevated that there is a general disposi
tionamong them to hold back their wheat in the
hope that prices will yet go tip to a agent ante
what in keeping with their expectations. - The
result;of this is an ebsolute scarcity of wheat in
the wheat-growleg districts, and one or two par;
cell been lately been sold from . Baltitnore to be

to keep the mills there in operation. Flour has
also recently been sent from Baltimore to'Cum
berland, and corn to Frederick from Hagerstown.
These eingalar transactions, reversing the anal
conrse..of trade, indicate that the farmers feel
the independentposition In which the high prices
and ready sale of their bust year's crops; ho,
placed-them,
and that they are impressed with
the ides that by haling back

lintrtsit Dmostscr.--General O'Donnell, the
Spanish republican leader, is said to bate been
secreted at:Madrid prier to the breaking oat
, elf the revolt, in the house of Lord Bowden, the
BAtish mom,. and :to hare remained there . nnder
Idspotedfon for testers' months. It is added
that the moment he abetted himself at the head
of the revolt, Lord Bowden left Madrid and
went to Paris, alleging reasons therefor which
were not even plausible. From this Tact, and
the continued defence of the rebels by the Brit
ish press, and the final placing of Evertor° at
the head of the new government,_ it is believed
that the insurrection was aided by the British.
One thing is certain, that O'Donnell and his co
adjutors in the original revolt were unable to
achieve emcees/ until they had . appealed to the
ultra Liberal party, and that as soon-as they did
so thererolution pissed' beyond their control.
The liberals, represented by Eipartero, rose at
once everywhere, as. though they had been. pre
tiously ;prepared. for the purpose. .Thus, if
O'Donnell's scheme for a mere military revolt
Was encourrged by Lord Bowden, it must have
been because he knewthat it could not succeed
at itself, and must call in the aid of Papartero
and his libentle.—.Worgt
