;AAntong the first noticeable effects is a disposition to
speculate largely In Pak. The growing hog crop Is known
to be largely increased over lid year, but the • failure of
the Corn mop, it to said, either makes the fattening of the
hogs Impossible or makes It cost so touch that the perm of
Pork mustadrance in the ratio of the advance inf.:ern. On
the other hand, it le alleged that the owners of beim har
ing nothing wherewith to Imes them - on, all winter, will
'be compelled to mil, and that the result will be the killing
of a great deal of poor Port. We offer no :epistleoe of our
out, he the premises, but it It plain that, with such an
opening, speculator. will not fall to profit .by the opportu
nity for a huge venture.
Breadstuffs continue ammo; but we note a gradual and
steady downward, tendency apices. The eupply te get
ting a little bettei ; but it is remarkable that it Is drawn
mostly from ChseinnatL Wheat doe. not come in ;and in•
stead of concluding that the iate crop wee a good one, we
should be led from prevent appearances to imagine that
there has been no at all. If there is, abundance of
Wheat lit the countrydlt certainly held - book gm want
offmarket. Our advice to holden of It is to Improve the
chance offered in the present high rates. They are now KI
blob that it le not likely they Saliba much higher; end
the probabilities are that they whi be conelderably lower.
Pastore have Isola here, on. arrival, at 141:V12.50 V
buthel—most extraordinary thrum; and the market has
beet/active, even at thoeefignme. As the Potato crop on
the Hlpiiippl hi reported to be a good one, these prices
ran only be maintained until the opening of navigation.
They indicate. however, the degree of failure In a crop
which is 115MMY very plentiful here. At this time last
year. new Potato. sold at 50 mats }, bushel for the belt
varteliec
The abort Corn crop .10 also atimulating the whiskey
dealora. and .n ailcance has already been rataldlWed at
Cincinnati.
Quite a consternation we/Inured here, yesterday, by the
report received 'from Cincinnati that the Brokers had
thrown out the not. of all the Indium Bank. except four,
Ourtirokers, more caotiona.refused to receive Indhummom
ey at all. As the notes of these Banks mutilated Moe
tenths of theeurrency In .circulation here. the metering
and emturragment caused by this mulgth and generally
unlocked trmovement wu inlipellsl. Neatly every body
has some of the money emend; and tonic.. men fourid
thetuseives dogged with it—unable either to boy with it
or sell for It, or to use It to meet their obligation*.
The notes of the State Bank of Indiana are still good ; It
vas to him StateStockßanks that sue - pluton attached. Thai.
to the Taunter ofeighty. have issued notes on &Poets of
State Stock. made with the state omeers and the Mame
irat amount of their issues most be very large. Should
these Banks be unable to redrew their note...on preemie'
lieu, the State onkel. will sell the State Blebs deposited
o somuity fOrthem. nod with the proceeds
. redeene the
notes according to the ? rootage yielded by the sale.
tlmotdr, therefore, the Oct. holder I. secure.
The probability is that the Chationati Brokers have re_
sorted to this moremeat to mate the Beaks to establish •
general agency far the redemption of their notes ; and it: le
probable that the result will be the utter extinction of the
weak-backed once, and those only will ear.ve which have
real vitality ht them. It 4l be hope!. now mat the
mush basicomm that the wbcde estadlincsystem on which
these notes have been lathed may be broken op and the
country be loft to hod some more healthful lourtw of soy
ply.
We submit. •lift of the eighty Stock Banks In loallana
and call attention to the tact that a Issue number of them
are so maned as to deceive the mobile—the titles of the
Banks leading the lee.ery I. believe them to ho anYthl.K
elm than Indiana Banks. The wunls arinalkna'
are mat Into a corner In small lettere. Cod the eye is greet
ed, In bly,• letters with melt titles 43 "Atlantic. Bonk..
"Bank of Aloha?... "Ilaok.orAtbluiy." "Bank or/maks: ,
"Dank of North America," "Bank of Symenee,'. "tinuicent
City Bulk," "New York Rock Dank," -Kentucky Stank
Itank."and en on. All these titles are Intended to deceive
Then we base Banks located at "Morocco," and other
places not to be roundoo the map, and moryosely Mooed In
mot of the way lomilltlee for the ...ow of presenting the
presentation of notes for redemption. The system as eon
mad one ssul It Is perhape but for the community that it
should come to a Simedr end.
