After a long debate the amendment proposed, giving the Secretary of War power to suspend the appropriation for River and Harbor improve ments in certain cases, was rejected, yeas 14, nays 85. Without coming to a vote on the bill the Sen ate adjourned. The Cholera at Niagara Volts. New Yons, July 29.—We learn from the most reliable source that the ravages of the cholera at the Suspension Bridge on the Canada side are far worse than represented. Our informant vis ited the scene yesterday, and found almost every soul capable of moving deserting the vicinity of the dead, which were without burial. He dis covered in one thanty a woman so far gone as to he unable to move, and. the dead body of her child, seven years old, lying by her side in an advanced state of decomposition. In another hbuso was found two men, ono dead, and the other dying without succor. z _ In another shanty was "" found three unburied bodies, so much -de- cayed that no one could venture to disturb them; the shanty was Set fire to and consumed with the bodiei.
