Horan—The Molise went into Committee' of
the . Whole on the bill making appropriations for
the transportation of the - mails by ocean steam
ers and otherwisafor the year 1855..
The section, appropriating $850,000 for the
transportation of the mails -from New York to
Liverpool having been read, .111. r. Olds moved to
strike out. the direction to the Secretary of the
Nov to give' the notice providing for the defi
ciency bill of 1852 to terminate the arrange
ments for the additional allowancofor the trans
portation of the between New York and
Liverpool in the Collins line.
After a long debate the let section was amend
ed fixing the 81st of December next as the time
for the Secretary of the Navy to give notice for
the termination of arrangements for giving ad
ditional allowance to the Collins Line.
The committee then rove, the amendment con
curred. in and the bill passed. It merely appro
priated the amount for steam mail service re
quired bylaw.
The Howse then adjourned.
SENATE.—The Senate bill allowing the Wash
ington and Alexandria Railroad to extend their
road over the Potomac river at Georgetown and
through Washington to connect with the Balti
more and Ohio Railroad, was . returned from the
House with an amendment, authorizing the Bal
timore and Ohio Railroad to extend their road
over the eastern travel to 'Maryland shore, and
down Alm river. side to a point opposite Alexan-
The Senate refeised to concur. Several pri
vate bills were passed. The Harbor Bill was
then taken up.
After a long debate the amendment proposed,
giving the Secretary of War power to suspend
the appropriation for River and Harbor improve
ments in certain cases, was rejected, yeas 14,
nays 85.
Without coming to a vote on the bill the Sen
ate adjourned.
The Cholera at Niagara Volts.
New Yons, July 29.—We learn from the most
reliable source that the ravages of the cholera
at the Suspension Bridge on the Canada side are
far worse than represented. Our informant vis
ited the scene yesterday, and found almost every
soul capable
of moving deserting the vicinity of
the dead, which were without burial. He dis
covered in one thanty a woman so far gone as
to he unable to move, and. the dead body of her
child, seven years old, lying by her side in an
advanced state of decomposition. In another
hbuso was found two men, ono dead, and the
other dying without succor. z _ In another shanty
was ""
found three unburied bodies, so much -de-
cayed that no one could venture to disturb them;
the shanty was Set fire to and consumed with the
bodiei. We learn as a reliable fact, that several
bodies only partially consumed, were to-day being
rooted up and devoured by hogs.
BUFFALO, July 29.—Mr. Fillmore and son leave
here to-day for Cayuga county. Both are in
very feeble health.

issued orders to his officers 'and police, to con
,tinue reporting all violations of the Sabbath,
declaring that ho will continue as heretofore to
bind, over all for trial by jury. taking the ground
that the recent decision of the Supreme Court
in Barr's case was entirelyezporte testimony, the
Commonwealth not being notified, and was not
represet.ted on, the the trial. lie stated that
even if the decision in Omit's cam Wile. overruled,
he possessed ample power under other acts to
enforce a rigid observance of the. Sunday law,
and its sanctity would be maintained as it hal
been since tbe issue of his proclamation.

night in James Lhmman's stable, Downer street,
and spread with great rapidity, consuming the
Railroad Ilotel, crossing to Lowell where several
large - wooden buildings were destroyed and sev
eral stores. The principal sufferers are Josiah
Bennett, John Maynard, James Lamman, N.
Wright, Messrs. Buttricks,'T. S. Proctor, and a
J. Braiult- The wooden buildings were occupied
by Irish. Many families are hOureless. The loss
is estimated at $150,090. A little girl fire years
of age, perished in the dames. James Lovett, a
fireman, was terribly, if not fatally injured.
