HOME MATTERS.
AFIFILOITLC MANCIIESTSB.--The tuntsually quit t
borough of Manchester was thrown into a suite of
excitementyeaterday,byari affair whieh occurred
there between Mr. J. 11. Kennedy, one of the pub
lishers of Kennedy's Reriew, and a man neared John
Schaffer, 'who is engaged, we believe. as nu en
gineer on the _steamier Pittsburgb. ,l From what
we could aseertain respecting the matter it would
appear that:Schafer 011115 coma lots in Manches
ter, and that ho entertained a feeling of anger
against Kennedy in consequence of the latter tak
ing a prominent partia getting an ordinance pass
ed, by the Manchester Council, requiring all lot
.holders in the borrough to pave the sidewalks
fronting their property. Be that as it may,i-le hut
far assailed Kennedy as be stood talking to a our

him a tremendous bloi.with his clenched fist,
whieh.stnnehed him senseless on the ground.—
While he lay in this state unable -to protect lam
self; it is alleged thatSchaffer kicked him repeat
edly; inflicting sundry dangerous woundi on his
person. The .affair..brought a number of per
soms to the groand, some of:whoia conveyed' Mr.
Kennedy to his residence where he now lies in .a
rather precarious conditton. We believe Mayor
Adams took his intent:sat:last evening, charg
ing -Schaffer with assault and battery with intent
to kill and that_ be insured a warrent for the ar
