Mr. 'Bright gave notice of his intention of call
ing up the Texas bill to-morrow.
Mr. Badger's motion to re-consider the vote
passing the Telegraph line to the Pacifm was

Mr. - Pettit moved to take up his resolution for
the Nebraska anti Kansas Act. -
Mr. Chase said if the motion was taken' up,
ho wiuki offer an amendment for printing

The motion of Mr. Pettit was then rejected.
The Homestead Bill was then taken up.
- Housz.—Unsuccessful efforts were made to
suspend the mice in order to report the Senate
bill granting land to lowa for railroad purposes,
and to report tho Senatebills regulating the pay
and to increase tho efficiency of the army, and
also to establish a retired list.

'Army Appropriation Bill.:
Sexars.-41r. Stewart,Offered his subsatuto
for- the. Homestead bill, giving the benefit of a
homestead ti all persons entitled to hold lands by
State laws, and fixing the price to be paid for the
same at the end of fire years at 25 cents, and tor
loads that hare been in market s certain time,
25 cents; also graduating the price of lands from
$1 to 25 cents , per acre, according to the time
they hare been in market.
Mr. Gwin moved to amend the original bill by
fixing the price to be paid at 25c.
A personal debate occurred between Mr. Wade
and Mr. Clayton. The former asked the latter
if he had used the words in the debate printed in
his sPeech, viz:—The Senators from Ohio and'
New- York will not so 'soon eat their words.
Mr. Clayton said he had'epoken them eabstan
tinily as reported:
Mr. Wade replied that he did • not believe the
Words had been uttered In the Senate, and accu
sed Mr. Clayton of having bkalked the mutter,
and in his private room had,written words in his
speech which he did not dare to utter in the
Senato.•

daughters of Frederick Howes, of Boston, at
