order to save the Union, we must sectionalize the

which its friends pretended respectidand unit,-

Tim Bottom AT BUCK Ink:in.—We learn
from an official source, that the argument of the
Bridge case was not taken up, as was expected,
at lowa City on the 12 b inst. One \of the pro
prietors of the bridge, went to,Judge Byer and
got a postponement of the argument until the
first Monday in September. It is not stated
whether, in granting.the continuance, die Judge
ordered the work to atop or not, but it is `under
stood that he did not. At all events - , the \pont
ponenient was granted without the knowledge or
consent of tho party applying for the injtuictien,
and other means will now be token to stop tke
building of the Bridge. The counsel employed
on this purpose will at once file a bill in the Su=
premecourt of the Coiled States, and the whole
question will be presented before Mr. Justice

A Rrssus Pulsar, is A Fix.—A California
paper says: Capt. Whiting of the Pacifie ,Mail
Steamship Sonora, informs us that when at Rio
Janeiro, from the 2d to the Sth of April, there
was a Russian Prince with hls yacht in the har
bor, and the English Admiral of the station
would not permit him to leave tho port. .On two
Dr three occasions, when the yacht got under
way, a British steamer immediately got up her
steam and took up a position outside the harbor
to prevent her getting out. A day or twobefore
Ito Senora left, it misunderstood that the Prince
had sold his yacht. 7:• •

fettled for Supreme Judge by a combination of
RELIGIOUS BIGOTS and GUERRILLAS. The
thousands of independent and patriotic Demo.
crats who voted against Mr. Campbell will n -
doubt feel complimented by this flattering notice
of Gor. Bigler's organ. The Patriot further
ears, that the "guerrillas" (meaning those who
voted ngainat Mr. Campbell) moatle upellcd from
the Democratic camp: By the time this "organ"l
gets through with this interesting operation of
•'reading out," there will not be enough of the
party left th act as chief mourners at the politi
cal death of Governor Biglei. Great paper that
Patriot—it is doing more for the election of Mr.
Pollock than the combined Whig press of the
State. Our only fear is that it will not survive •
until the ekction. Should it manage to live um '
tit October, it and its patron, Gov. Bigler, will
fall together, and the epitaph upon theirsom.
mon grave will be, "died Eros en orirsoNita of

re N. Y. Herald, in spenking of the extrava
gance that has characterized the living of Many
in New York, lately, says that the •'reaction has
at last conic. Real estate is descending from-its
Pegasus, and one by ono the necessaries of life
are becoming reduced in _pike. Money is be
. corning more dear and more difficult to obtain-
Many merchants and stock jobber., living' in
large houses and driving fine equipages, are now
trembling on the brink of a fearful precipice."
The failures all over the country give note of
warning to be prduent. The inflation of the
last year could not' continne. Prices are too
high. We must expect to see them come down.
