LOSDON.—The Standard states that the British
War steamer Eicounter, and the 11. S. sloop
Plymouth, were engaged in all attack on the Im
perialist forces at Shanghai, on the, 4th. On
board the Plymouth, Gen McCarkle was killed,
and four others wounded severely: Capt. Pier
son, of the Rose' Standish,. was dangerously
wounded. The victors captured two 12 -pound
ers, four sixes, and four eight pounders. , There
is no detailed account of the engagement.
