DISILVIITON Or THE NATIONAL Wino PATS.
-r-it is by no means pleasant to Contemplate the
disruption of old and honored organisations, and
the rendering • of long cherished politicel and
penmsal friendships anti associations. Never
theless, however disagreeable it may be, it is al 7
ways best to look the truth sternly in the face,
and prepare for the consequences of eircarnstin
-003 beyond our control. The Whig party is not
accountable for the • Nebraska outrage. It had
no hand in the concoction of this devilish ele
ment of discord. It cannot, notwithstanding,
avoid its bitter results. Its fruit is, 1 yi fares
the National Whig party is concerned, division.
There is no avoiding this Consequence, unless the
Southern Whigs will agree to go for repeal, and
Willreslitt the admits' sion of Kansas ns a elate
State, tailless the Whigs of the North will agree to
submit to 'the outrage, and. permit tho slave
.
breeding gligarehy to ride over them rough shod.
There isiso prospect of either of these results.—
The Southern Whigs almost unanimously sup
port the. Nebraska outrage, and they never will
agreel to make the restoration of the violated
'Missouri compremise it party measure. • They
also sympathise with all the other measures of the
propagandists, and could not carry; a corpora's
• guard with them were they to affiliate with the
lithigs of the North on, the anti-Nebraska plat;
form. The Northern Whigs, even if they were
so disposed, would be shorn of their strength,
and rendered "perfectly helpless, were they to
come onto the Nebraska platform of the South
ern Whigs, But they are not so disposed, brif
are resolutely bent on, resisting now, and here
after, all further encroachments of slavery, and
to make such resistance the chief plink in their
platforni.
A simple statement of the case, then, shOws
that the, National Whig; Party is destroyed Past
remedy, and the dictate of common sense is, that
instead of lamenting over what cannot be help- .
ed, to see what best can be done under our chan
ged circumstances. -
We are not singular in this view of the condi
tion of the Whig party... Itis admitted with more
or less acknowledgment of its txtent and hope
terraces, both in the Nortkand the South. The

• "The history of the Nebraska bill has at last
opened the eyes of the Southern Whigs to the
utter corruption nod ttsectionaliiatien" of the
Northern branch of their party. Tire few among
them whose ambitious hopes have hitherto. re
tained them in a forced attitude of conservatism,
have yielded to the abolition influence, and among
them all there remains not one man of note to
wham the. Southern Whigs can give countenance
and support. Not the Seward Whigs only were
represented In the present session of Congress,
but the Fillmore and Webster Whigs also. yet
the final vote on the flchrasta hat found them
united closely together, and emiditing each oth
er in opposition ta the South. It seems that they
have tired of their long disguise, and that hence
forth and forever, the Whig party of the North
• is to be devoted to a systematic warfare against
our Interest:eland our institutions. This. spirit
and intentions plearlyindicated by their presses,
not only-by the 24mes, the Tribune, and other
acknowledged eirgans of the Free Sellers, but by
those , journalk which like the Albany Register,
and the Comp , and Enquirer, have hitherto been.
'ranked as rfpresentatiVes of the more temperate
and conservative portion of the Northern - Whigs.

and convincing, is that Ute....Tdorarka 441 has be

We do not wonder that candid and reflecting
Southern Men stand aghast when they consider
the aninequences of the Nebraska
outrage upon the feelings and sentiments and
pride of the North, which has no corresponding
benefits for the South to justify the fearful dan
ger of Ike indertaking. They see that it - has
denationalized the Whig party, and has built up
a powerful, able, and resolute Anti -Slavery par
ty on • the ruins. The Whig party at the North
is well organized in all the States. It has sa its
exponents the leading and most able papers of
the country, of largo circulation and immense
influence. It is a living, acting and energetic
party, and ready to go to work. This latter is
of great Importance. This party, at - the last
Presidential election, when itlabored under most
discouraging circumstances, Cast 1,014,337 votes
in the free States alone. In the same States the
Democratic party, cast 1,147,875, and the Free
Soil party cast 145,858 votes, showing that the
Whigs and Free Sailers had, united, 23,830 votes
more than the Democratic party., It Should also
be recollected that there Was a.contplete union
in Democratic rank's; the Anti-Slavery Dem
oeinte—the Sorts and Barnbutners—voting with
the . Iliad, or pro;slavery Bunkers. Added to
thee was the Native American vow, and the
en
tire Catholic - mod foreign vote. Besides, the
Whigs - were divided and dissatisfied. There was
no cordiality of union between the Compromiie
Whigs, and those of arcing Anti-Slavery,procliv
ities, who opposed the Fugitive Slave Law. The
Anti-Compromise Whigs- were disgusted with
the Baltimore platform, and repudiated it. The
Fillmore and Webster Compromise Whigs would
not and did not support (lee. Scott. These are
facts of political history which cannot be denied.
Yet, under all these favorable ciretunstances for
the Democrats, and disheartening circumstances
for the Whigs, the Dmpocrats were 28,830
votes in the minority in the Fre , e. States.—
Who does not see, that there Is in tho.free Statis

Very iiropagaudism, even without counting upon

that to a large extent. The mote pro-Slavery
and Southemized the Democratic party becomes,
the Mors strength it will lose at the , North. It
will become the lancer) , party,. the Southern
party, while the Whigs will become the Anti-
Slavery party, the Northern party, and thus
that great evil so long dreaded, the division of
the Union into sectional parties will be brought
about. -Tor this result the Whigs of the , North
-are not accountable. ` They resisted as a unit

ble for it, as the paper above quoted, the Macon
Telegraph admits:
The bill ens drawn bye Northern "Democratic
Senator, Mr. Douglass; it was pushed through
the House by a Northern Democrat, Gen. Rich
ardson; it received the votes of a majority of the
Northarn-Demoerats; and was aided by all legit
imate means by a Democratic administration.—
The measure must be pronounced a Democratic
measure. It received not a single northern Whig
vote, "and of the 118 votes it obtained in the
House, one hundred were the votes of Democratic
mesbers.
It is a Democratic measure. Ito repeal is the
measure to be supported by the Whigs. On that
we go to the country, with a clear anti-Nebras
ka majority in the free States. All thatts want
ing to access, is a complete and harmonious fu
sion of the-Whig and Free.soll pestlei on the one
principle resistanceto all further encroach
ments of elavery, carried out into practice by "in
sisting a the restoration of the Missouri Com

elements will most certainly take plaeo,us the
people are for it with most extraordinary nu:

which has been made in some quarters, tied
Goy. Btot.rat was 'about to withdraw from the
contest on account of ill health. The Po.t says:
"This is a weak invention. Governor B.'s
health is not too delicate to prevent him unfurl
ing the proud standard of his party, and bear it
once more to battle and victory. His health is
good enough to meet the champions of the com
bined factions in the thickest of the fight, and he
is quite eager for the encounter. Not the Demo
cratic candidate is ready with his hotness. on,
and this he will demonstrate ere long, to the ter

Letroot our friendi, nor enemies either, be at all

We are really glad to bear that Gov. Bigler

is no cause to be distressed about his health.—
We should be very sorry to have Gov. Bigler

we regret that the condition of his health requir

desire no barren victory, but one which will toll
upon the country. We have no wish to see our
opponents retire, from. the contests and put up
some unknown man as a victim, and then any
the election settled nothing. No, no;---let
Bigler remain, the most eminent, influential and
trusted Man in the Democratic ranks, and we
will try end defeat him on the great principle of
opposition to the' Nibrisaks outrage,—of opposi
tion to the encroachments of slavery—and of op

exponent in this State. We are therefore glad
to hear, for his own sake. that the health of Oey.
