Com. vs. P.-Van Swarttuow and P. Holmes; In
dictment assault and battery, on oath of Conrad
Roam. - The defendants in this ensnare rnemtiars,
of the Birmingham night police, and Roche, act
ing disorderly in the borough somenights ago,
they attempted to arrest hue, . He resisted, and
•they to effect the arrest, had to use personal slo
b:ace towards him. A verdict of not guilty was
rendered. .

battery, on oath of F. Van Swarttnow. This
case arose out of the circumstances stated above.
A verdict of not gniltrwas rendered.
Corn. vs. Daniel Bowman; Indictment larceny
on, oath of. Robert Patterson. The defendant,
It was alleged, stole a wheel-barrow from the
prosecutor's house on Vnion street ; a servant
at Patterion's saw him take it away, and heard
him say that ho; would return it. Verdict, not
guilty, and defendant won discharged.
COM. vs Cteorge T. - Taut, indictment assault
and battery. The defendant's name being wrong-
ly given in the indictment, he was discharged
without a trial.
Corn. rs John Hartman ; indictment nuisance,
on oath of Peter Leer. The parties to this case
midis in Allegheny City ; and Hartman, it is al
leged, keeps three wicked and ferocious dogs
which are .a nuisance to the neighborhOod. A
number of witnesses were examined, who spoke
very bard of the dogs, whilst others gave there a
'fury good character. The Commonwealth failed
to cake out their case, and a verdict of not' guil !
ty, and prosecutor to pay the cost, was ren
dered.
Son Accmger.—A German, named Peter Shels
berger, was drowned in the Monongahela riser,
near Saw Mill Run, on Saturday evening last.
it appears that he had been out on the river
catching driftwood, and that whilst in the act
of stooping for a board, ho lost his balance and
-was precipitated into the water.. A number of
Germans, who witnessed the accident, mode en
attempt to rescue the deceased; but through
- some unfortunate mismanagement th'ey failed to
aoramplish their object., Cortiner Lowry held
an Inquest on the body, on Sunday,ithen averdict otaaoidental drowning was rendered.

BALTIMORE, June 18.--New Orleans papers
7 of Monday, arc received. They contain details
of the Mexican news from Vera Cruz to the Bth.
The Mexican papers 'are silent in reference to the
Gadsden treaty.
The papers contain various reports of officers
left by Santa Anna in the South, from which it
would appear' that the revolt in that section of
the country is being gradually suppressed. Many
prisoners had been made. There was considera
ble discontent in various departments at Guanju
ate. Several rebels bad been shot.

ing, but' no excitement or disturbance ensued
