These defenders of a corrupt and imbecile ad-
Ministration tell us that the resolutions are trea

freedom, to speak the . language of a freeman.—
So corrupt has the government beeline, and so
base its defenders, that Its hirelings, gorged with
official patronage, bawl " treasen" at all who

who have sold their manhood for the fat which
the , administration can put under their belts,
should have such assurance? A common and
decent respect for the opinions of their fellow
men would have prompted them to hide their
heads in shame, instead of parading their brazen
faces before the world and stretching their per :
'chased lungs to cry " treason" at those who
cannot be bought to imitate their low example.
They, only, are traitors—theirs, only, is treason;
and no mock patriotism nor sham berates can
save them from the condemnation which their
shamelessnees challenges.
"Resolved, That the Democratic party will re

the agitation of the Slavery question, UNDER
WHATEVER SIIAPE OR COLOR THE AT

The above resolution was passed by the Dem

perjured, vilely' perjured before Heaven and
Earth! At the very first Congress which -met
after Pierce's election, that same Democratic
party, with this solemn pledge staring it in the
face, commenced to agitate the Slavery question in
a most reprehensible and dangerous manner, and
