The Yoke of the whole country has condemnirl
itin the most unmistakable manner, and still
they persist. They hear not and heed not; but

the past, and blind to the consequences of the
future. With a self-willed and reckleaS deter
mination that listens to no entreaty, is ruled. by
no solid reason, and moved by no impulse of good
to the country, they seem to have , nerved them
selves up to the last work of despair, trusting to
the hand of overruling destiny to save the na
tion from the natural consequences of the con

The politica) atmosphere of Washington is fa
tally poisonous in all times of great political ex

from the channel in which the full current of

At the regular hour the President called the
Convention to order.. Prayer by the Rev. J.
Pence. Several delegates granted leave of ob.

The special committee-on the affairs of the Co . lumbiana and North German CLassis reported
that they have examined with care the 'whole
subject and recommend the dissolution of their
1 ecclesiastical organizetions, and that they form
1 a new Claseis, under certain specified regulations.
This matter at first seemed to present great dirt,
oulty in the way of its settlement, but was hap-
I pity adjusted with the greatest harmony and
i unanimity.of feeling. . .
The Theological Seminary Committee reported
approving of the course of Prof. Gerhart as
teacher of Theology-4hot eight Students have
this 'spring 'been dismissed froth the Seminary
and were licensed:to preach. the Gospel. The
financial condition of the Seminary is not so
good as desired. • Additions have been made to
the Library, and efforts are to be made to collect
outstanding dueS.
The "Western 3 liseionaiy," as reported by the
Committee on Publication, has increased in cir
culation and interest during the last half year;
its affairs are now in a prosperous condition. It
is recommended, with confidence, to the Church
for continued support.
The proposition from the Eastern Synod, ask
ing the contmerence of this Synod in the altera
tion of the Conititution, which bed been referred
to a special committee, was acceded to; and the
Chines are asked to concur; . A number of other
cemnhittees reported many items of business. A
series of resolutions, calling the attention,of the
Church to the importance and propriety orin
creasing the salaries of Ministers, gave rise to
Some interesting remarks. The subject was dis
cussed by Dr. Winters, Steiner,Williard, Rus
sell, Hacks and ethers. The hole matter was
referred to a special committee, which is expect
-
al to bring it before the Church at large.
Church extension claimed the attention of the
' Synod, and was recommended to the cattiest con
sideration of the Churches.
Adjourned with the usual religious exercises.
AFTERNOON SESAME.
The hoar for convening arrived, and in the
absence of the President, Rev. GOO. B. Bassett of
Pittsbargh, was calved to the chair temporarily.
Prayer by Rev. J. Heyman.
" The Committee on the state of Religion re
ported on the state of the Churches. Upon the
whole, an encouraging state of things exist
throughout the bounds of the Western Synod.--
Large incites° has been made. to the member.
ship; new churches have been built; new points
have been occupied; and religion advanced. In
the month, of October next the churites are re
quested to take up collections for the phrpose of
crentinga church extension fund.
During the remainder of the afternoon, the
Synod was occupied with matters of A Rlift`Olk
neous character, which may not be of public in
terest enough to be mentioned.

The following resolutions were then unani- ,
moody adopted.
I. Rewired, That the subject of Domestic Mis
sions is among those of the firs( In portanCe to the
present and future interests of the German Re
formed Church, and as ouch, it demands the earn
est and immediate action of the whole church.
2. Ilt.golml, That in the calls that are coming
rip for aid from oar Ilttitute people,,v,e hear the
voice of our sons and daughters, hrethern and
friends, &c., &c.
3. (This resolution renews former appeals to
the churches.)
Rev. Father Gerhart, the delegate from the
Eastern Synod, took leave of his Western %refit
cm in a feeling address, which brought tears to
•the °yoga Many. Ile Is the father of our The
olegical Professor, and has been in the ministry I
haactive service forty-twoyearz. The president
responded to his remarks: !Osumi hint of the,
Illynod's - triad feelings, and asked him to bear I
back to'the Eastern Synod the warm 'Sympathies

A vote of thanks trns passed to the hospitable
citizens of Greensburg and vicinity, who have

Its duty is to organize emigration to the War and
&ring it into a system. This duty, Wkich should
have been attempted lorig ago, is particularly ei-
