rms.—The Ininititra estabruthment of—Meet
kirk & Intritt; , Sinitittleld street, between First
and Second,. was . entirely consumed on•Suoday
night about lialf-MiSt eight o'clock.
The fire originated in a back building attached
to the warehouse, which was to difficult of access
that the flames communicated to the main build
ing before water could be thrown. The building
is a four story brick end belongs to Dr. Rindle.
It was insured for $2500 in the. Dartford In
surance Company, sufficient to corer the loss.
Messrs. M. & J. suppose their loss to be about
$4OOO, on which there Is an insurance of $2OOO
in the Fireman's Insurance office. Some of the
furniture was saved. The heaviest loss falls
upon the journeymen, to whom all the tools in
the establishment belonged, and on which there
was no insurance. .
For some time fears were entertained that, the
'adjoining buildings would catch, but owing to
the determined energy of the firemen they were
preserved. The stock in Mr. J. Williams' cloth
ing store adjoining was much ipjured by water!
Messrs, M. & J. have rented the store - two
doors bekiw the old location, end will be ready
to carry on their business in a short time.
Dining the progress of the fire; much alarm
was felt lest it should roach the shire of. Shriver,
Dilworth & Co., - on Second street, the '
nntieral
impression being
,that powder was stored in it.
The fear was groundless. , Ideate. 8. D. & Co.

keep any in their store, and .we believe there is
no store In the city In which.it is kept. The city
ordinance on the stihject is strictly observed.

they had, by some means obtained , keys to Dr.
Swift's - Church, Deaver street, Allegheny, by
_Which they obtained entrance, and secured the
ponibibution box, which they for Ced open, and
twit $2,00, which had been contributed by the
children , of the Sabbath School, from it. On
Sunday they repeated their visit, and giit fifteen
cents, but were caught by the sexton; The mo
ney and box were found Concealed in Ackley's
