that there hid been no adjournment, and there
fore this was a continuation of the legislative
day commenced yesterday. He had no authority
to adjourn the House. The Chaplairi Came in as
naval, to perform his duty, if necessary.
Mr. Buda quoted the order of the House
adopted the first day of the cession` that 12
o'clockshall be fixed as the hour which the House
shall stand adjoarnedfeach day, nail;otherwise
ordered. Therefore, the House stands adjourned
by its own order. :
The Speaker °caroled the point mainly be-,
elitist the legislative day still continues; and be
cause there cannot bo a meeting of,the body
without en adjournment. •
Mr. Banks appealed, and made a brief expla
nation to slicer. that there is a precedent for this
point, but numerous objections we made.

Mr. Richardson, the leader of the Irebraskaites,
stated that be was advised to say that the propo
sition made in the morning to postpone the spe
cial order on the Nebraska Billie some time next
week, would meet with no opposition from the
'friends of the measure. •
Mr- Campbell, 'the leader of the opposition,
said he had invariably . been refnied the privi
lege and must now object to the gentleman's pro
ceeding.
Mr. Hughes asked consent to make a remark,

The British steamer Fury cut out a Russian
merchantmen .near the entrance to Sebastopol
harbor under convoy of a Russian steamer. The
Russians gav'e chase but the Fury escaped after
cutting her prize adrift.
A Russian war steamer from the Archipelago
passed tote Dardanelles and the batteries, reach
ing the BiaCk Sea in safety.
Four thousand Turks refused to march from
Oizerown to the war on account of arrears in pay.
The insurrection against Russia in Circassia is
becoming general throughout all tho warlike
tribes.
It is believed that Ichmayl would soon be in
torte to attack the Russian head quarters at
A French imperial decree allows Russian ships
which lay.in the ports of the Baltic and White
Sea previous to the 9th to unload and return
unmolested to Russia or neutral ports.
The crews of Russian prices arrived in Eng
land have been liberated on parole not to serve
against England or. France. •
Parliament reassembled on the 27th. It open
ed.wilb a long debate respecting the burning of
Circassian forts of Foekslrani by the Russians.

Starx.—The London Times' Madrid ozrrespot -
dent states that five notes have passed between
Mr. Soule and the Spanlat. Gov.-mama...,Nu. . 1..
by Soule, states that the complaint, and the rep
aration he is instructed to demand, requires a
positive reply in four hours, No. 2, is from the
Spanish Government, declaring their inability
to reply until information is receivedfrom Cuba.
No. 3, taxes the Spanish Government with seek
ing to postpone a reply, and insinuates that they
received despatches from Havana but suppressed
them. Nc. 4, from the Spanish Government was
so strong that the senders thought Mr. Soule
would demand his passports. No. 5, from Mr.
Sonic, was in milder terms, but its contents have
not transpired.:The Spaniards look on the
American claims as overbearing and exorbitant.
. Mr. Soule waspresent at a dinner given bythe
British minister.
AtSTICTA.—The Emperor's marriage has taken
place. He has granted en amnesty to 400 pris
oners.

The resignation of Chevalier Bonier as Minis

by Count Bernstoff, a man thoroughly Russian.
Gerczcz.—lt is reported that the Gulf of Co
rinth is guarded by •French. ships of war. and
that communication is stopped between the Con
tinent a d Peloponcssus; that the whole of
Southern Thessaly is in arms, and that the Turks'
had been defeated at Mezzoro.
Isms.—The report in confirmed that Bost Ma
hammed seeks an alliance with England.
A revolution at Ava is reported. The Prince
had imprisoned his brother and seised the throne.
Cams.--Cantori is quiet. • At Sha - nghai there
is continual skirmishing.

culars differ materially.. The brokers reduce
their quetatiOne for ordinary and middling 1-16.
Ilollingshead says the demand is leas this week
than usual. Ali classes above middling are com
panttively scarce and firm; of qualities below there
is an abundant supply and the market is heavy.
Richardson and Brothers say better qualities
are scarce and i dearer.
• On the 26th a sharp Combat took place before
Kalafat. Twenty squadrons of Russians with
6 guns were making a reconnoisance of tbe Turk
ink line when the Turks sallied out with two reg
iments of regulars, - some bayonets and cannons.
After a fierce fight of three hours, they obliged
the Russians to retreat with the loss of 600 men.
Admiral Napier has divided his fleet into three
divisions; the 14 has gone in the direction of Li
vonia, the 2d off Riga, and s 3d at the entranto
of the gulf of Finland near Bweeburg, where the
Russian fleet is keeping close.
Several steraners.were seen off Odessa& on the
21st which gave rise to the report that the city
had been attaked by the allied fleet.
