The bill to establish a Boardgf Fire Directors 'in Philadelphia, was taken up, debited at length by the Philadelphia Senators, and paned final ly—yeas 15, nays 10. The bill relative to the Pittsburgh and Erie Bailroad Company Ina referred to a Committee of Conference—the House having appointed inch a committee on the All in that body. . The Committee on Finance reported the bill for the settlement of private claims against the Commonwealth; which was taken up, and was considered till the hour of adjournment In the afternoon, Mr. Darsie read a hill, in place, supplementary to the Act for the sale of. the Main Line of the Public Works. The supplement to the West Chester and Philadelphia Railroad, was passed finally. The private claim bill was again taken up, and was discussed till the hour of adjournment The'llouse was devoted all day, morning and afternoon, to the consideration of Senate amend ments to the General Appropriation Bill. All the points of any importance in this bill were mentioned in former letters. In the afternoon the amendoients were all disposed of--several of them being non-iencurred in, when the Rouse adjourned. The bill goes back again to the Senate, — and will finally go to a Committee of Conference. ilkirThe Harrisburg correspondent of the Pittsburgh ,• Daily Union," does injustice to Mr. Daunts, In charging him 111 MS letter of 29th ult., with having opposed the motion of Mr. McClin "took to appropriate $1,500 to the Duquesne Alpo dation of Pittsburgh, for the. erection of monu ments in honor of deceased' soldiers of the Mexi can war. The correspondent of the Union is a warm advocate of the original proposition—to . appropriate $l,lOO to the Scott Legion at Philo delphia, and in his anxiety in behalf of his fa. Tante measure, has allowed his zeal to outrun his dinned:sn. Mr. Deride not only did not op pare Mr. McClintock's motion, but he ropported it! j The true history of the matter is this : The original proposition was to appropriate $1,500 to the Scott Legion at Philadelphia, for the erec tion of atonements to deceased soldiers of the ' Mexican war. The section was stricken out by the Senate committee. Mr. M'Clintock moved to reinstate the section, and add an appropriation of $1,500 to the . Du quesne Association of Pittsburgh, for a similar purpose. • Mr. Evans moved to strike out Pittsburglthnd, Insert Chester co. This was negatived. Mr. Thirsty voting against it. Mr. Kunkel then moved to strike out Mr. Mc- Clintock's motion, and substitute a new section, appropriating $5OOO for the erection of an ap- 1 pro nate monument on the capitol grounds, at Itamsburgh, provided a like amount ems raised by private rabscription. This was lost by a tie rote—ls to 15—hir. Darsie again recording his vote in the negative: Mr. Kunkel then renewed his prbposition, re ducing the sum to $lOOO. This was carried— yeas 17, nays 1:1: and the amendment as amend ed waslnegatived—yeas 15, nays 16—Mr. Danie voting all the time in the negatire. By the adoption of Mr. Kunkel's amendment, Mr. McClintock', amendment f direct vote being taken upon it. Mr. M'Clintock and Mr. Dante voting together against every amendment, and thus indirectly voting is juror of Mr. M'Clin tack's motion. The Senators who opposed the original propo sition, did so on the 'ground of its being too sec tional. They were not opposed to a proper commemoration of the services of ' the sol diers, but if anything of the kind was done, they wished to make It general—to embrace all who periled their lives in the victories of that glorious campaign. The' charge against Mr. Dareie - is incorrect, to say the last of it, and does him gross injustice; and j have deemed this ,explanation proper, in order to set him right be fore his constituents. Will the editor of the Union, who has been deceived, do him thejus tin to make the correction? ,Tris proposition that Judge Pollock should de- cline the Wbig riomination has met with no Carer 1 .from the Whigreasof tile State. The pariei originated it, that Lancaster. Independent Whig, 1 has abandoned it, and now labors earnestly or JudgS rem - oak's success. Oar' neighbor, of the Journal, Who was at first teemed to favor the proposition, has, as we see by that paper of yes- Concluded to throW In Its aid towards the . amcctss tithe Whig candidate. The Whig press is now, therefore; united ; and with a claim field before vs, there Is every etoomigement to enter upon-an satire campaign, and, sufficient hopes of success to infuse a feeling of determined confi dence in the result. Osa Hosier Locoroco PAPER. —The Potts ,sale Emporium, haring- been misled by some of ita unscrupulous coteuiporgibs as to Judge Pol lock's course in Congress, has had the manliness 1 to repair Its error, thus: • "lb s. Wo commend this honesty to. the imitation of the Pittsburgh Union, Harrisburg Patriot, and others of that class. FIZO'3I WASHINGTON Dorrtgprondence of the Dar Pittsburgh Gantt. Wasamaros, May 2, 18' Mr. Senator Slidell has begun the. movement for Cuba - and liberty. The country will be agi tated to its profoundest depths by his resolution for the suspension of the neutrality laws as re. garde Spain, and more by his speech explaining and enforcing that proposition. The Senate is a oonaervative body- : ..exceedingly so when sla very hi not invoived;and their long experience hos shown that it arepley the part of the in eendiary, agitator with unparalleled effect. - .The administration has doubtless made use of Mr. Slidell to bring this subjecthefore the coun try. I doubt whether it expects or wants - war, but it certainly does want a counter excitement to the. Nebraska agitation. There is no doubt that Slidell himself would be rely glad to make espitalhut of ani.harmiess ebullition of fililms teriem, but the President and Cabinet would hare tti - hear the responsibility of a war with . Spain,-and perhaps with her two allies, France and Boglatid. The bruit!: of that wa r and the expense of it would fall upon the people. It would cost - at the very least a hundred .millionri of dollars, which is what .Polk offered for ft without a war. Now, while our rulers-are-thus coolly distxrnag or our millions, would itnot be as well to reflect upOn the objects of thoexpendi;" tare? Besides; all this mealy is to ice squander mil for the expresS purpose of hrtermeddling for tfie perpetuation of slavery in . Cuba. The pro, .tence is that the Spaniards are about to eman- cipate: their own slaves. We must resist this gross outrage. Why? Because Cuba is almost within olpt of Florida. Let us look at the cou. sequeace - of this argument. . Cuba becomes a slava State orprovince of this 'Union; and it Is then ar..varered that Porto 'Rico is within sight of Cubs..
