'nits Raria.a.—We con Mao to report the river
at this point rising, and n a first rate stage to
Cairo. Boats of the largest Mess ere now one
bled to arrive and depitrt, leaded to their utmost
capacity, in the New Orleans and Ohio river
trades. The Missouri river is getting high, and
b oo b, d r oning eight feet water would have no
trouble whatever In reaching St. Joseph. The
last arrivals report the 'tiler Mill swelling. The
!Upper lifinsiMdppl is also rising from the effects
'of recent heavy rains, 'w ich have fallen during
Thursday and Friday dast, and will, it is
thought, swell the river i from Galena and Du
buque down, to a considerable extent.. It
is to be hoped thet - thei present rise will ren

stesiters of the smallest sire have been enabled to
cross them this season, Yrom what wo can deem
.
in referenie to the rains that have fallen, we are
confident that the long eXpected and much desir
ed rise in the Upper_Mississippi is close at hand,'
wad boats in the Galena trade will be able to
snake - their iegnler trips, Or a short time at least.
Boats from the IDinoiell, yesterday report that
stream.to be falling, -with but four and a half
feet water in the river at the upper cud. At the
lowerend of the river there is an abundance of
water.

Howthe fire originated-ts a rayetery.
During the fire one :of those disgraceful fights,
which occasionally bappen between rival compa
nies, sprang up between the members of the Al
legheny and Dagneine engines. Bricks and
'stones were plentifully I used, and both engines
a good deal injured—the Allegheny . the more so:
grearmanyhad theitl heads cut. though none
were seriously injuredl The fight 'originated
front the accidental sprihkling of wnter upon:ono

the old feud and bad keeling existing between
the companies sufficed - as an excuse for the eon
sequent proceedings. So determined was the
animosity that every other company retired from
the erotic of the fire, during the combat, to ovoid
the flying stones. .
