icn Asizarr, to Bazar JAIL.—A bold at
tempt to break . jail Was finstrated on Monday
night, about ulna o'clock, by the vigilance of
Jailor Crawford.
Cell No. 2 was occupied by Carr, Who was con
victed of larceny a few days since, and sentenced
to the Penitentiary, and Charles FICIUM, under-
going sentence for petit' larceny. At the hoor
above named, CrawfOrd bearing a peculiar noise,
proceeded to the cell and gently opened the dobr.

• ventilator, which , lie had succeeded in entirely
removing. Thenaw was made from a thin cress
piece, of iron on his bisli. - whin-h he bad broken off
for the purpose- Upon a further examination of
the cell, it was. dlecoveted that the iron plate
bounding the window was nearly filed off. Tho'
hinge of the cover of the refuse

broken off for that purpose It was evident that
-thin means had been abandoned.
The ventillator connects with the cellar, and
has its-exit on Bowl street, so that when one
succeeds in getting through, it , is an easy matter

The Arabia arrived this morning with Liver
pool dates to the 15th. The Pacific arrived out
on the 19th.
The news by the Arabia is interesting.
Ads-ices from Madrid - state that the Spanish
Government has made prompt reparation for the
Black Warrior outrage.
There has been no fighting either on sea or
land.
The Prussian and Austrian governments are
negotiating.
It is reported th.tt the Russian expedition has
succeeded in opening the ports of Japan..

Sr. PETERSBURG. reserve battalion
is called out, and the second reserve battery for
each corps.
MARSEILLES, 14.-ITrunt will replace Admiral
Hamelin in the Black Sc,a for the purpose of
giving Admiral Dundas chief command of the
combined fleet. Gen. St. Armand is to hone
command of the combined land forces.
There is no later authentic news from Turkey.

is a report that 16 Russian ships of war, anchor

The English and French vessels of war on the
coast of Thessaly, have orders to search all ves
sels suspected of havingmunitions of war aboard,
and seize actor-Alien found guity.

recently lying there is offered for sale. The Bra
zilian steamer Ecuador had foundered.
Austria appears.to be more in unison with the
western powers. 'Prussia leans more to Russia,
though temporising to both parties.
Aram 9th.—The protocol guaranteeing the in
tegrity of the Ottoman territory was signed at
Vienna by the four powers, including Prussia,
but simultaneously Prtissia introduced into her
mutual alliance treaty with Austria a Condition
and limitation which would render the treaty a
dead letter, sod which Austria, consequently, re
in-seri to accept. All military arrangements
arising out of the proposed treaty have been re
ferred to a commission presided seer by the
Prince of Prussia. •

Baltic 'with stores for Russia, and an English
steamer has been despatched for them.
"There was but little ice in Finland.
The whole of the allied fleets were in the
Black Sea near Parma. All manners of the

Admiral Derides has orders to take, burn and
destroy everything. His fleets were in commn-

on Ealafat, and a sanguinary encounter of four
hours occurred. The Russians were routed and
pursued a considerable distance.
The British war steamer Cyclops arrived at
Malta on the ith,bringtog important news. The
Turks purposely left a free passage for the Rus
sians to Ilirsort6 and then attacked them in the
rear. _Afters hard fight half the Russians were
cut to pieces,and• the remainder retired across
the Danube.
The Turks had evacuated the fortress of Czar
Recede, in Dobrutscha. It is also stated, with
out date, that 20,000 Muslims crossed at Galata
without opposition. All the accounts, however,
are eery confused.
Two English vessels on the Danube, loaded
with grain, were fired into by Russian batteries.-
One was sunk.
Three thousand French,lroops arrived at Con
stantinople on the Bd.-
The Declaration of War by France and Eng
land embed immense rejoicing at Constantinople

It is reported that the French Colonel Den has
been killed in a recOnnolgance. He belonged to
the staff of Omer Pasha..
St. Petersburg was illuminated, and Te Dennis

Wilcox, of Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA, April 25.—During the week
the offerings of Beef Cattle amounted to 1600
head, 600 head were driven to New York: sold
at 9P10). Cows and Calves 82440. Feeders
$15(220. Sheep, a small supply at s66itG,so
per 100 lbs. Lambs in 'demand, sold at $4€7)5
'la head. Hogs $6,2506,75 1100 lbs. •
New Vona, April 25.—The offerings for the
week were 2688 beeves, 1469 cows and calves,
3703 sheep. Thero has been a fair show of cat
tle since our last with a good demand. Veal and
mutton a little dearer. Swine in good supply.

Veal calves $46,50. Sheep $5015. Swine,
gross weight, 8'45,50.
BALTISIOILE, April - 25.—The offerings for the
week were I'oo head of Beef Cattle, 100 of which
were driven east and the balance sold at prices

WAsumoros Crry, April 25.—The Washing
ton Globe learns that the chain-bridge over tho
Little'ralls, on the Potomac, fell yesterday morn
ing, killing several, among whom was Mr. Ryder,
the contractor.
