wrestling in front of the tavern, in sport, when

Cullen knocked McCall down and beat him. Af
ter McCall got up and.advanced towards him,
MeCullen pfeked up tclietivy club and struck
him overthe head,. and -as he was falling, be
struck. him again over the face with the club.

the front of the left side of his head to the back

lodged against McCullen. lie is an Irishman,
and is about 27 years old..

cured for more than the amount of his loss.
• 'MAN KILLED.—A man named Taylor was kill
te on Tuesdaynt Fallston. Beaver county, in the

in the shaft, and whirled around at the rate of

seizure of Martin Koszta at Smyrna.
Messrs. Cass and Douglas advocatedthe yds.-
lotion as a mutter of justiee to Mr. Brown and
Mr. Marsh, Wile had been misrepresented in the
affair.
In the case of Senator-Phelps, the question as
to his right to a seat, having hcen appointed by
the Governor to fill a vacancy, and the Legisla
ture having adjourned without an election,
Messrs. Butler and Badger contended that the
L,ogislature being the constitutional constituents
of the Senators:, their failure
,to till a vacancy
could not be supplied by executive authority. ,
Mr. Phelps addressed the Senate for three
hours in support of his claim, when the matter
was. postponed until Thursday next. Subse
quently, after executit4 session, the Senate adj.

The report of the Directors of the Mint at
Philadelphia, for the'paat year, was laid before
the House. Tho amount 'of coinage including
gold hors,
$60,111,240, of 'which $39,355,621
were in gold coins, $16,835,908 in refined gold
bars, $7,852,571 in silver coin, and $67.000 in
copper coin, all comprised in nearly 67,000,000
pieces, being nearly twice the number of pieces
ever before struck at the Mint in ono year. The.
coinage at the Branch Mint, at New Orleans,
amounted to $945,000.
