Jewelry eters stolen.—Ono of the most extensive
robberies that bee been Dome:Wed In this region
for paste, wee perpetrated on Thursday. The
slffeter is a man named Mellon, who owns, or
did own, a jewelry store to the Eagle Hotel
Buildings, Liberty street. On Monday, basing
occasion to go to the °wintry, be left the eet&b•
liebment in charge of a journeyman in hie eat'.
ploy. He returned late on Thursday night, af
ter the usual time of closing the store. Yester
day morning on proceeding to his plane of bust
' nees, he found the store closed, and after wait,
leg some time he forced his way in, when he die
covered teat the entire contents of the store had
been etolen. The loss will amount to between
two and three thousand dollars.- About 'fifty
watches, and other articles in the jewelryline,
chains, &o. &c., were taken. Mr• Mellon pro
ceeded to the boarding house of his clerk,
when he was informed that the latter had left
the afternoon previously In a hoot, taking with
biro three trunks.
Hwette was informed of the facts, and imme
diately started inquiries. A t the latest accounts
he had obtained the number of the hack in
which the clerk bad left the boarding house, so
that It Is probable he is now on the track of the
thief.
LA l oll2.—Patrick Murphy, while intoxicated,
entered the office of Dr. Dixon, Federal street,
Allegheny, yeetecday, and stole a valuable cloak
and a book. The artioles were found in his pos
session by the officers. Ho was locked up for a
hearing to-day.
The Whig primary meetings will be held to
day in this oity. We will give the Het of del.
gates on ?Sunday.

this city prior to his departure, will be delivered

Tan Lan ROBBIE!. —The pollee of Alleghe
ny succeeded in recovering seventeen of the tur
keys stolen (with a horse and wagon) froth John
Lyth, on Wednesday night, in Allegheny. The
fowla were concealed in the cellar of an Intermit.
ed house on the corner of Rebecca street and
Sturgeon Lane, in the first ward, Allegheny.—
They were Wet:titled and taken in possession by
Mr. Lyth. The horse and wagon have not been
recerered yet, nor le there any clue to the detec
tion of the thieves. The police are on the alert,
however.

ford was taken before Alderman Major, on Thurs
day evening, on a charge of keeping a tippling
and gambling hoise, on oath of a man named
George Boller. The prosecutor was yesterday
committed to jail for live days for disorderly
conduct by Alderman Thompson, on oath of a
mac named Reed.

Illation before Alderman Major, yesterday, spinet
James Divine, for assault and battery. Divine
was arrested and held to bail.
We are informed by hi. P. Oster, who was a
enterer in the late conflagration In this Plate,
and who was insured in the Western Farmers•
Insurance Company, of New Lisbon. that he re
ceived from the agent the next day after the fire
the full amount of his entire loss in rash. This
speaks well for the character of the Company.—

freight train of the 0 & P. R. ft. brcke on Thurs
