The Board assembled , at 7 o'olook last evening,
to receive the report of the general missionary
committee. The Bee Bishop Wangh presided.
The meeting wee opened by the reading of •
portion of Scripture, and payer by the Rev.
Bishop Simpson. The proceedings of the com
mittee were read to the Board, and were anent
-
monsly confirmed.
The appropriation Is large, being en advance
of $60,000 upon that of last year; but it is believ
ed that the amount is leas then the state of the
missionmy °sue requiem.; and there asp be lit
tle doubt, from former experience, 'that the
friends of the society will meet the proposition
generously, and not Buffer a draft to be protest
ed.
The eonstitation of the moiety requires that
at lout two of the Bishops shall unction the
appropriation agreed upon by the general com
mittee and the Board. This having been done
the presiding officer, Bishop Waugh, addressed
the meeting In a few pertinent remarks. He
said that he had been very mach- inspired with
the proceeding of the committee, Ito harmoni
ous action, and with the thaA result of Its delib
eration. Be would state, however, that the
total amount of the appropriations was /11070
than be expected, yet having been an attentive
listener to the wants presented from each dele
gate for foreign and.domestio purposes, he con

After considerable debate the follosing preamble
and resolutions were unanimously adopted:—
Alarm, The General Assembly hes propoun
ded a series of question, to our Southern °hurtl
es on the subject of slavery, which Imply dis
trust of us is brethren, width constructively
charge as with guilt on this subject, and would
bring as to bear testimony against ourselves be
forehand; and whereas this subjeat was called
up by them at a late hour of their session, after
it had been onoe indefinitely postponed, and dis
armed under the threat, that if such discussion
was. not allowed, Northwestern churches would
secede from the Assembly "In platoons"—there
fore,
Reselln4-let, That the feelings of certain
Northern oburohes on this' subject, are mot likely
to be more oorikm than the heneat sentiment" of
Chrietlan men where slavery actually exists; and
that the threats of no pation.of the Assembly
should istimettos them on s question of right or
dnty.
2d-That we regard these qiestiou u both
defamatory and inquisitorial, notwithstanding
the declarations to the contrary; and that they
are well calordsted to wound the feeling', impair
the usefulness, sad cripple the efforts for good
of brethren and churohes in the South. -

questions, this Presbytery firmly decline return
ing to them any answers whatever.

splendid dry goods store was opened this morn
tug in the western part of the city. Mr. Hugh
Alexander has removed hie establishment from
Smith Second street into one of the new granite
trout stores on the South side of Cheenut street
below Tenth. The Clots is one of the bandsom
