milli. late In the afternoon, when they returned
. a verdict of guilty. of assault and battery only.
Commonwealth es Francis Blunt, indictment,
keeping a tippling house. The defendant plead
- • guilty to the indictment, and was fined in the
sum of $2O and costs.
Commonwealth vs Jesuit Walker, indictment,
keeping a tippling home. Walker plead guilty,
and sentenced to pay the same sum.
Commonwealth vs B. Marks, indlotment, keep
ing a tippling home, plead galley, and fined
Commonwealth vs Thomas Bally, indictment,
obtaining goods under false pretences, on oath
of B..Tuteur, of the firm of Tnteur & Co., liquor
merchants. The alleged offence consisted in
obtaining from him, liquors And 'gore, to
tip amount of $2O, by representing that he
owned stdfieient property to pay three times the
amount. , A verdict of not guilty wee rendered
. - by the jury, the prosecutor to pay the costs.
Francis Jameson was arraigned for, and plead
guilty to keeping a tippling house. He was
• sentenced to pay the canal amount

from the city. A portion of the clothing we.
found in the possession of the defenkent. -
Commonwealth vs Bridget Trainer, indictment;
••keeping a tippling house, in Charlton township,
near the line of the Steubenville Railroad. She
• was found guilty on two indictments, and was
sentenced by his Honor, Judge McClure, to pay
a fine of $2O and costs in each ease. In default
she was committed to jilt.

Democrats 8. The House has 80 Demootate
and 39 Whigs, with 18 members to be heard
from, which were represented to the last Legis
lature by nine Whigs and fire Democrats. The
Congrearionni returns ate as before stated. In
'Baltimore aify, the Maine Law Sheriff bad 1690
Majority; the Maine Law Assembly ticket avera
ges a majority of 1000.

terday, for passing counterfeits of the Back of
Boston City, and the Bank of New Haven.—
Counterfeits of both Banks were found upon
