Mr. Darragh requested the propagator to ask
the witness, whether by ever made oath against
these' Men before the Mayor for larceny. It

point ' The Court overrated the question. The
hour of adjournment having arrived, the Court

Examination of Pack oontlnued.—The Mayor,
Long, Gallagher and Trent were present when
the three men were locked in the Mayor's office;
tw,o gold watches and $76 wets taken from
them, and also soma counterfeit money; the men
were put in the cells and the constable put the
thinp away; was there on Monday morning, and
I 'taw them in the evening, when they were to
have a hearing; the Mayor told me they wanted
to see me; I went down, and the -Mayor went
with me; bat they would not talk as long as he
was there; and ho went away; told the Mayor
when I came op, all the mem told me; they had
so hearing that night; the !Shyer told me I could
get my money next morning at ninon'elock; went
down but did not get if; there was no hearing;
constable Long took one of the men away; saw
him go down to the depot; on Wednesday, I went
down: and the Mayor told me they had broken
jail, and the constable was in search of them; I
said the man was let out; that I knew the con
stables let him out; told him I knew it; the May
er said he would give me my money back, If I
would not tell on him and the officers; It was in
the morning, the prisoners broke out, that the
Mayor said if I would keep quiet, I would get
my money beak; the Mayor sold he would glee
me $BOO out of his own packet, if I would not
impute him; told him I mast have rye money,
or would proeecuui him. he told me "to crack
my whip ; ' the money him;
- was in bank notes
and gold; that taken from the prisoners was In
silver and batik notes; counterfeit money was
also found on them; offers have been made me
since that time from the Mayor, promising to
pay me If I would keep quiet.
Cross-examined—The money was stolen from
my house In Allegheny; never saw the men be
fore Friday, when the money was stolen, follow
ed them down to Rochester on Saturday, never

stolen, It was the first time I ever saw the man,
