branches of the Legislature are largely Demo

The people of San Francisco have adopted
the revised charter.
The Sierra Nevada arrived at San Francisco
on the 16th.
Gov. Lane of Oregon and Lieut Alden, of the
army were both wounded in an engagement with
the Indians on Rogue River, the latter severely.
Gonelain dates to the Bth of August are re
mitted. The small pox was raging terribly.

of August. Ninety Whites, and 260 Indians
were engaged in the ekirmish, which lasted four
hours, when the Indian Chief Saw, proposed en
armistice which wee granted. Ten Indians were

three killed and eight wounded. ' Among the
killed are Captain Armstrong. The Indians
continue their outrages at other points.
