Lot or Panwnstes —We give to-day a com
plete list of premiums awarded at.the late State
Fair. The list enorosobes upon our apace, and
orewds out our advertisers as the letter _of
Mr. Marcy did, yesterdsy; but they will yield us
their indulgence, and we will endeavor to
meke it all right.
Mas. Swissimmt—not 'being able, last week,
to get out the Vuiler, issued en extra edition of
the Fatally Journal, with an editorial or two of
her own, one of which le devoted to the teak of
defeating Dr. Carothers, and electing Dr. Mc-
Clintock.
In the muff of the week before, she made
some allegation' &genet Dr. Carothers, on her
own authority alone, to which we took the liber
ty of giviag an emphatic contradiction. She
now repeats them, and more . offensively, but
still withholds the proof of her allegations If
she had it, doubtless she would produoe it It
Is not for us to prove '& negative. We have giv
en to all her (statements a broad and unqualified
denial, which We now repeat; and if she has no
proof to produoe, the public will know which to
believe.
In addition to her former charges, hire. B.
eedenvore to create the Impression that Dr. Me.
Clintock is not only a better anti•etarary man
than Dr. Carothers, but is eminently reliable on
the Temperance question! Bbe also takes occa
sion to add to her former, charges that Dr.
Carothers is "an enemy of the ten hour Lew,
ossispublic schools, a friend of laud monopolies
end petty Deepotlem l"
Polltiosi mendsoity could not go:farther than
thle. '.The ruilor deeeende to even a lower deep
than the Post. We had supposed that the latter
paper had got ea far down aa was possible, but
It must yield the palm to the Visitor. The reek
helmets and truthlessneas of the one is outdone
by the other.
We scarcely know bow to charaothrise coach
assaults as these, upon the Integrity of a loan
who hes passed unscathed through the meet
fiery publlo ordeals, and has won the highest
praise from polltioal foes as well as friends, for
stern uprightness and efficiency, se a represents
the ; and It to mortifying to think that the in
strument of snob gross injustice should beta
woman. But while we lament that any woman
should so far disregard the ameulties of life, it
is a matter of consolation, in this particular Out,
.to be able to reflect that the venom she display■
le broaden.
We repeat, that each and all of the ohargee
made by the Taira. against Dr. Carothers, are
false, and cannot be sustained by a particle of
proof. They aro the offspring of personal ma
lignity, and nothing else. The whole public and
private life of Dr. Carothers gives the lie to
them, and there is not an item upon the public

Pram Dar Pasumiraaleatto Staaaa-Zeltang,
To day's Moot ifesteitg at Lafayette Moll
Let none misunderstand the importance of the
meeting which takes piece to day. Its obJeot is
to unite the Germane in Allegheny county, under
onepriscipla. The Germans will unite to deolzre'
that they d.t net want any Prohibitory liquor laws
cud that, for this reason„ they seal Cot rote for
eirly ecmdidats fo►_efica who will support tucA lams.
If then the potitwal parties make these laws •
party; question, the Gammas will declare that
they will have nothing to do with American party
(potations. By each a declaration a new party
will not be formed, for a single principle cannot
form a party; yet much wilt ba gained, if the
Germans once firmly declare what they wish and
do not wish, and that they are no longer willing
blindly to be taken In tow by the sabting par
ties.
•.
This is thegobject of this meeting, for which
(for this reason,) names of Whigs, Democrats,
Hunker and Barnbmaer, Precool:or, §e., dto ,
have no longer any value.
Thslitution is zbey/y ibis: Temeranee min or
Anti. Temperance men. Be Who is an antl•temper
anoe man must be so throughout. He is there
fore, against that religious sectarian spirit,
which hu called forth there prohibitory lawn;
he is against the restraint of personal and pro
fessional freedom ; he is against all political and
notional presumption—which, Andeed, is barfly
perceptible, yet Is eesentlally employed. in the
agitation of those laws. It ought to hare te•
come evident to the Grimm that the temperature
hunibtsg for the greatest part has ill nourish-
Meat in the hatred of the native America= for
foreigners. They hate the more liberal customs
which the (kraut's.: bays brought to this country; and
many, not 'temperance men, have joined the ad-
Toucan of temperance, because they wish to work
against the extension of Gorman Customs. Thus,
the rouse of auti•temperauor, or the agitation
against Prohibitory Liquor Lows, is a truly Ger •
man cause, which every German ought to feel
himself bound to advance.
We regret TOT] much to Awl the sb.,vo in tho
German Whig paper of this olty. The &ado
Zeilung, in taking this course, has surprised sun
astoniehed ite Whig friends ; and if it persists in
carrying out the scheme embodied in the extract
we have given, it must expectt to encounter the
stern disapproval of the Whig party of Allegheny
emnty. The formation of a German party in
our midst would bo fraught with dangers of the
meet serious kind, and would provoke unheard
of excitement and opposition.

ROPOSITION.—The following prep-

to the consideration of the State Society t

and great coat of the State Faire In Penneylva

with benefit, and that they should be made

ODD be little doubt that In a State like Pennsyl
vania, it would be much better to bold two faint,
one eastern and the other western, than to have
one for the . whole Slate. They should oleo be
made stationery at some Weeder place, in
stead of being perambulatory. If, for instaueo,
the western ocuntles would unite and hold a
grand fair annually at Pittsburgh, it would un
questionably result la greet improvement. And
if PhiladelphithChester, Delaware, Montgomery,
Lanoseler, Barks, Books, Northaintton, end oth
er eastern counties were to unite their efforts
and hold anlaelern fair at Philadelphia, It would
be largely advantageous to all et them.
Both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh enjoy such
superior facilities of access for freight and pas
negate from all parts of their respective no
tion', that it would be much batter to hold a
great publio fair In each, than to endeavor to
oonoeatrato the efforts of aarts of the State
on one of them, or to hild bone State Fair In
eons caller town in the interior, possessing ac
commodations altogether inadequate to the vast
numbers flocking to this annual display.
