PORTLAID, Me., Sept. 13
The eleotion return§ render no choice for Gov
ernor by the people, ate certain. No distinot
party hare a majority in thel Legislature, and
there is no great change from Iset'year in the
general result. Portland has dented three Whigs
to the Legislature; Bangor two; Augusta two.
The Democrats have a gain inenmberland (mea
ty. The Whigs' have probably elected two. Sen
ators, being a gain. The vote of Portland gives
Crosby, (Whig) foraisbernor'B9B; Pillsbury 738;
.Morrill, 392; acattering 6, a very large Whig
gain. There is also an increased majority in the
Legislature in favor of the Maine Law.
P. 111.--.Besenteen additioual towns show • gain
of one regular Damoorat and two Morrill Demo
crats to the Legislature. The vote ie verylight
throughout, and the balance of the returns will
not materially effeot the result.

The UlllOll has several important political ar
ticles; one denounces the New York National
Demonrat as an enemy to the administration;
another denies the oharge of being controlled by
Governor Marcy, or ac turfing design upon Sen
ator Dickinson's orthodoxy; it also defends the
appointMent of Gen. DLx, and pronounces hien&
sound Democrat.
.Wesuncrrow, Sept. 13.
All the rumors of rupture between Secretary
Marcy and the President are false. Mr. Marcy
has tho , entire confidence of the President, and
the Cabinet is a unit. The Cabinet had a long
session to-day, and foreign affairs ware fully dis
cussed. Ingraham will certainly be sustained.
George M. Dallas is in town and may get a
mission to China or France.
The rumor that Secretary Davis Is to leave the
Cabinet to•run for Senator le coneidered unfoun
