grown into a custom, and a bed one it ie. sat a

for three millions was raised, upon condition

This new schema of eddies interest to the con

The three millions detect and many millions
of botch failing to complete the work, and it be
ing indlepensible to raise millions more, the di
rectors did not stop paying dividends or interest
wheo the reed toothed the lake, and their faith
maintained, but continued the payments, thus
giving an unfair impression 'of the value of the
road, whereby they raised large sumo with which
to complete the road. The rood, though worth
hundreds of millions to New Yak, has cost Its
owners many .millions on any r un able 11511•

dividend has been fairly earned. For a-long
period the road has maintained itself by borrow.
in;, and pay day approaches so near that in etc
muting a half million of certificates mature, to
be either paid or replaced by .new bonds.
In this etato of affairs, the question arises,
whether it le not better polity to Atop paying in
ternst upon the stock, and devote the earnings of
the Company totheliquidetion of its debts which
bear a large Internet, and preys heavily upon the
prosperity of the concern. Should the Diana.
gets of the road pass the dividend or make it in
eteek, it would have an unfavorable influence up
on the stook and upon ratirtads built upon cre
dit everywhere. But u agents of thirty millions
of capital, they are to honor bound to do that
which will nosiest put the road upon a sued
