li/tether in reference to a commotion with the
Allegheny Valley, or the Pennsylvania Central
Railroad, this river line of road is all important
to Pittsburgh, as affording the moat sure =tee.
elms with the West, by reason of avoiding the
=sling of the Ohio river, and the advantage of
low grades and large mixtures, upon which this
road can be oonstruated. The minimum grade
not exceeding fifteen fat to the mile, while the
curvatures will be over 2600 feet radius. It is
therefore clear that a higher rate of speed can
be maintained upon this road over the Heropffeld
and Washington road to Pittsburgh, eqpivalent
to the difference in distance. -
Apart from tbe lazga amount of freight and
travel that win be derived from off the Marietta
and the Olio Central roads, the local business
along the line of the road will be amply self-
Chia to pay running expenses. The Item of
flour alone will, I. presume, reach 200,000 bar
rels per year, to whisks may be added large
amount of wheat and bacon, with a surplus
trade to the cities and towns, in the bordering
counties along the line of the road.
Another Important reason for the early tem
nation of this road Is, the avoiding an Interfax
mace with the State sovereignty of Virginia, or
the " re:arced r4ghte: of our neighboring city of
Wheeling; seeing that the Ohio Central Rall
road Company will notweetr to the compact, we
can the more readily relieve them (Wheelies)
from their plighted faith, under the connection
that ulfirilneu should be let aloes. Where there
is no smutty there is too onward; and so be
