'The 'aliened track from Cleveland to Pitts•
beigh has been burled in snow for several days,
and trend suspended.—borriredle Courier.
This Is a specimen of the disreputable course
punned towards: our railroads by interested per.
sons in cities down the river. We aretoldthat it is
sidommon thin in Louisville and Cincinnati for
runners to tell travellers that the Pittsburgh and
Cleveland road is broken down and inipauable,
or thatiaterrrible aocidelit has dust 000tirred, or
some other falsehood, adapted to the same end;
and .noW we have4S , respectable paper like the
\ LTiliviil6 Cormier engaged In the same burliness.
1h ee extract we give above is clipped from among
the Isar news of that paper. -Me do not say
that I was inserted with a knoiledge of its fair
ity; but we think n little more minion should
be exercised in giving currency to mach reports.
"The nallroad track between Pittsbur g h and
Cleveland hu" eat , been buried in snow," nor
has travel been suspended on it for one hour,
during the whole tinter ammon, so far; and as
the road ie fuither smith than the Lake Shore
anditew York roads, it is at no time as likely
to be impeded by , snow u they are. The re•

Company. It Mon how the opening of new
roads duuNges the current of travel:,
..Since the opedzig of the New York and Erie,
and the Pennsylvania railroads, nearly the whole
of the western travel has been 'diverted from our
rood. This travel was formerly it large item In
oar revenue. Its progressive decrease is shown
by the following matisties. In 1847 the revenue
from western travel was $62,419 Lfk in 1845,
$59,578 26; in 1849, $87,583 76; in 1850, $34,-
' 333 75; in 1851, $21,534 30, and in 1862, only
$5,477 30. Besides thte,the establishment of
outside steamers from New York to Charleston
end Satsuma has largely. reduced the southern
travel In our line.

On last Friday, the fast senger train from
the west, in palming over bridge above Irene
villa; Huntingdon county, ran over a man and
completely impended his head from, his body,.
It appears the deceased, company with an
other man, was going o er the, bridge and d!t
not lee the train, in cons quence of there being
a very short curve at the end of the bridge, in
time to get off. His companion jumped of the
abuttment and escaped without !Diary. The
other in attempting to cross the trackwas struck
by the cow•catober and thrown down and his
bend severed from hie body. We did not learn
the name of the deceased,
On the same day, about 4 o'clock, P. M. the
freight train from the eut came in contact with
the freight train from the west, about one mile
above bleVeytown. -It is gall to have been the
result of carelesenees, as the train from the
west was running out of time. 'Both trains
were running very fut. Both engines are a
perfect wreck, as well as some of the freight
oars. Thelon, to the Company is about $6,000.
Mr. Painter, one of the conductors., was caught
between two care end hsd both his lege broken.
One of them has eince been amputated and it Is
likely the other Utilises to be also. He suffers
very mnob. Very little hopes are entertained
of his recovery. Mr. Porter, of Lewistown, a
brakeman on the same train was caught be
tween the same care and had his ankle broken.
He le doing very well. The engineers and other
person on the mint escaped uninjured.
Tie freghent occurrences of these *cadent'
make more evident the necessity for a double
track. It is Impossible for the Company to do
the immense business they are now doing and are
destined to do„ without a second track all the
length of the road.--Sfifflintown Sentineal.

DEL/MAIM Itirteros.—The Improvement/ on
this branch of our public . works,we learn, :are
rapidly lorogressing. The main part of theta Is
at New - Hope, where four new locks are being
erected in place of the old , ones, of double-the
old width, end capable of passing two boats at
code; which will greatly facilitate business.—
Decides thie, the bank of the canal is being
walled up for a consldeable distance. BO as to in
crease the roam either for bests to pass or to
lie by;' and the aqueduct over the mill stream is
being widened to the samenspacity u the canal
itself. New bridges, of a more substantial
crueler% are to be erected over the canal at
both the streets leading from the York road to
the Delaware; and other improvement; are pro
jected or in contemplation. . .
At liblereville new locks are about being erec
ted, also of double the capacity of the old ohm.
The work at both these planes le done by con
tract, awarded to bidders by the Canal Com
mbelonen: and-we understand that very large
pecan; will be made out of the jobs. We be
lieve this generally the case on our .public
works•
In addition to the shove, a general work of
tepair sod improvement is going on,we believe,
throughout the line, under the dirtcticn of the
gapervisor; but to what extent we are not infor
med. At Lamberville, the aqueduct is being re
built; and we presume every repair that Is need
ed along the line iv to be done now, so that no
interruption of busbies for want of it need he an
tieltisted for several years. This is what ought
to be diite.
If the winter should continue mild and the
weather favorable, it is hoped the whole work
may be completed at an early day, and the line
ready for use at;the usual time of opening nav
igation to the eprieg. If each be the cascoa large
ly increased business may be anticipated
frt the coming action.—Doylestoten Intelligeartr.
