.We have at length offtelal intelligence of that

The revolution of February, 184 X !darted well,

.expelled,) if established would .0111 hare left
numerous guaranties of popular liberty and in

of asserting under the absolute tyranny of Louis
Napoleon.
I am compelled to conclude, from a review or

doring the preoeding fifty-nine years, that the

Upon the whole, however, we think it but not
to prognosticate further about Francs. Expe
riepos has taught us to expeCt for little political
good from tilt quarter. It is the bane of revo
lutions that calming Institutions must be over.
.thrown before needful substitutes can be pro
vided, and disorder, anarchy, and general blood
shed intervene between the downfall of one pled
of government ;and the rise of another. The
French fail ih this interval: and the result la
that after eixty-three years of revolutions they
have reached the unlimited despotism of a bro
ken gambler and on exhausted ram. Without
respecting them we cannot withhold our compas

impotent struggles for a government milted to
their condition and tastes. Wittiest impatience,
and without hope, we await their next revolts.
