I hire the pleasure to inform you that we hare
completed another link In. the Bellefontalne and
Indians Itallroad,—between Bellefontaine and
81.
ldney, a distance of 224 miles. The track was ,
closed on Saturday lam, and on Wednesday of
this week, the citizens of Bellefontaine and Sid
ney were invited and joinedin a celebration and
dialler at the Wirt of Quincy, about half way
between the two 'pLaces. -
A large gravel train la now engaged in bal
lasting the track in tide division, and in a abort
time, pasenimi and freight will be , conveyed
regularly from the Miami Valley, at Mini, to
the Mad. River Billroad, at Bellefontaine—af
fording a winter railroad outlet for the rich pro
duets of a flourishing and•populoue region. The
ears hive bean-running regularly fot some time
put, between Galion and Marion, In connection
with the C. Cit and C. railroad, bringing the
fine cointy of Marion Into railroad connection
with Cleveland, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh,
Philadelphia and Baltimore.
The track-laying will be immediately com
menced at Marion, westward, at Bellefon•
taine, eastward, and at Sidaer, westward; and
bjr Spring, we hope to have the 'entire track
laid between "Galion and the State line of Indi
eat', 118 miles: mating a continuous railroad
routo from Pittsburgh, via the Ohio and Penn
urivania Railroad, and Bellefontaine and Indi
ana line, to Indianapolis, and Terre Haute;
and also to Madison and Louisville, on the Ohio
river. •
The &Mee from Pittabargh to Indieutpolls
by this route, will be 391 mike, which can be
mm in 19 boom, inoluding stoppage. So that
peonage, may lone Indianapolis at 6 o'clock
in the morning, and be In Pltisbutgli at 12
o'clock the some night. The time through, from
'lndianapolis to Pittsburgh, will be nearly the
eance'ss from Cincthnati to Pittsburgh; and you
may anticipete a large amount of business from
Indians and Illinois passing through Pittsburgh,
destined for Philadelphls and Baltimore.
The Indiana link from Indianapolis to Union, at
, •the Ohio State line, is to be finished this month;
and there will then be a circuitous railroad
route from Union through Greenville, in Darks
county, Dayton, Bpringfied, Xenia and Cohan
fins, which may be need to some extant until our
-direct through line can be opened.
The Bellefontsine and Indians raid •Bl be

first letting of contracts.

Another year has, excepting a few days, pu
led tato eternity. A new 'eerie appearing. God
gives It to ni, and leaves us to weave its months,
weeks:days and hours into joys or sorrows as
we will. The hours, minutes and seconds of
the comingyear—of ell time-are golden threads;
jewels, of which to *ease the garb for eternity
—a garb giving us a plate with the redeemed
and blessed, or a part with the man whose idle
ness and more active sine kayo nestgoed him as
a subject for the gaming& of endless remorse.
Timea year is the alma now as formerly.
Bet wo May be so differently situated In rob
time to it, to our fellows and circumstances as to
render the coming year, so for as we individual
• ly are concerned, far different from all former
periods.
The year aboutts close has been o year of sad
experiences to some of us; the shafts of disease
may hare withered the blooming cheek, palsied
the firm -elastic limb and bowed the majestic form

light of the dawning new year, to the bobbling

To me--perhaps to you, door friend—the pres
ent year his brought many sorrows, and yet

and he who yields not to temptations—loses no
golden moment of lime—is worthy of, and will
ensure present and eternal prosperity and hap

THE FIRE AT SACRAMENTO
Eight or ten thee were lost at the Sacramento
Ere. Sixteen hundred pulldings were burnt. The
wind wu blowing spin at the time, end the
lire spread with fearful tepidity. Every public'
building In the city, excepting the Court Homo,
was burnt. Threchuncfred and fifty buildings,
many of brick, were erected within nine days,
and hundreds of others were rapidly going up.
One account states thlit there were twenty re
hundred buildings burnt at Bacremento, and that
the loss would not exceed fire millions.
