alarming the tax-payers of State, and le pro
ducing ao excitement. Thus corruptions

of the Portage Railroad to avoid the inclined
pleas. The action of this corrupt Board has
*heady involved the State in another heavy

($160,000) to the stook of the Allegheny Valley
Railroad. Thbrotith $50,000 subscribed by the
borough of Wittensdng, some time Ago, makes
the very liberal sum of $200,000 of =Value
subscription to this county. besides a very con.
eldership amount of individual subscription.—
Surely such people deserve to have a railroad.
Now let Alleglienyoome nito the work with the
same liberality in proportion to her seiessed
valuation as have Clarion, Jefferson, and Ann
stroiig, and this road so vitally important to her
Interests, may be pushed forward to completion
with all desirable speed.
Great credit is due to Onernor Johnston, and
the other gentlemen of the Ilford, for their un
tiring exertiocs in pishing ferwad the surreys,
.and in demonstrating io the eatisfaction of the
people of this fine valley the advantages and the
prospective profits of this Important enterprise.
From further intercourse with the people here
I am mare and more peroxided that we shall not
only give the vote of the Slate to Gen. SoOtt,by
a larger majority than Den. Taylor bad,but that
we can awry our State ticket—Supreme Judge
and Canal Commissioner. This is an object
worthy of the. exertions' of the Whigs every
where, both on account of the interests of the
State and tho honor of the judiciary, and- as
forammer and prestige of a still greater triamo
in November. Let usehow the looofocos of mil
es States that they bare lost Pennsylvania; and
it will give them each a downsetting as will make
it oomparstively easy for our friends to over
come them. Let us corn , the State in October,
and even the vote of Virginia for . Boott may be
one of the trophies of our victory.
The Contretelonal District, Westmoreland,
Armationg and Indiana, although when formed
it was en down se gone beyond redemption to
those who called themselves democrat., will be
strongly contested. Mr. Kuses, the indepen
dent. Whig candidate is strong in personal popu
larity, and most deservedly so. He residue in
Westinorelarid, where he was born, and where
almost every no is his penonal friend.
