made an able and effective sited; on the tariff,

can Oliphant, Seq., of Uniontown, delivered an
able.and eloquent address, and after sings from
the Glee Clubs, the meeting adjourned.

At a largo and enthusiastic meeting of the
friends of &Ott and Graham, held at the Public
Square in Dirmingbam, on the evening' of tbo
21st instant, Robert Esq , was balled
to the Chair; John WChirg. Esq.. was chosen
Vibe President, and George W. Wendt, ;Reg
Secretary.
James I. Kuhn, Esq., being present, was called
upon to address the meeting, which he did in a
clear and eloquent manner; vindicating the
polio; of the great Whig party and the Irene
emident tibilitiet and patriotic, services of our
gallant leader, General WINFIELD SCOTT. Hie
speech was listened to with marked attention,
and frequently applauded bi the vast crowd.
Hon. Jasper E. Brady next took the e tend,
and In a speech replete with logic and eloquence,
vindicated the claims of the gallant Scott to the
highest °face in the gift of the American people.
Hie remarks in defence of Scott, against the vile
attacks of the leaders of the self styled Demo
cratic party, were received with rapturoas ap
plause by the meeting; thus showing the strong
hold that great general awl statesman has upon
the American heart.
Both the speeches were very happy and effec
tive.; and the songs of the Sligo and Birmingham
Otee Clubs, created the greatest enthualumt

tion, which was adopted by acclamation::
Revoked, That we, the Scott and Graham men
of Birmingham, wi ll meet at the. place on the
;fad instant, at 91 o'clock A. 5., and march in
procession to the Convention of that day; and
we cordially invite all good Scott men to join sis
in rolling along the Chippewa Ball on that occa
