THE LOCOFOCO ADDP.EB.
The Locofooo papers of this city, yesterday

To undertake a reply to this long-winded and

The address commences with-the usual four

The address next tams to the Tend vaztion,

House for chairmen of committee', did he ap
point Mr. Franklin Pierce as one of them? Not
at all, but left him away down fourth upon tho
Judiciary Committee, from which ho never rose
doting the font years that he ion. In the United
Stotts Rouse of Representativee! The , fact that
no Democratic Speaker, diming the whole four
years that Frank Pieroe was in the House of
Representatives, ever thought of selecting him
for the char. man of even the most unimportant
of the standing committee" of the Home, shows
very closely the estimationAu which hew held
by his own party, who controlled the orgartiu-
Hoc of the House and the committees. These
facts, too, indicate the widely different and
higher appreciation in which the talents and
statesmanship of James K. Polk was held by the
common party of both of these men, since Mr.
Polk was, the first two years, °helmet' of the
most important committee of the House, and the
lalt two years, the Speaker of the dome of
Representatives, while Mr. F. Pierce dii not
rise above tie dead - level of mediocrity!
Now Mr. Franklin Pierce amain Congress nine
years, and had a floe field for the display of his
ability and statesmacohip, if be possessed either.
Did he display either? 1b hero is the evidence of
it! .Where are themenuments of his statesman
ship! Can his friends point to a single public
act which be introduced for the public benefit—s
single poblie measure which he originated? If
he delivered even a speech, which would lift him
iibeve mediocrity, why do his friends not pub
lish it? His Congressional career is about as
dlank and andidia, guithed Is his military. He has
never displayed either exilitaly or chit qualifica
tions which give him the least prominence either
11Ff 11, military man or It uWtoemoa
The coechision of the matter, then, is that
Franklin Pierce was a -General under the illus.
tricots Scott in the campaign of Merin., where
then watt a great deal of hard lighting, yet was
not in a Magic barle! Re was, a member of
Cccgroeo for coo yearn kid did nothing to dis

. co for the public good—moss rose ahem
Me level of media.. tierer made a single speech
which his friends dare publish as evidence of
his ability! Ile was according to the official
report of the commandieg Genera! In Mexico,
"on de ring all the hard fl n hting in Mee icy, end the records of Congress show that ho
was equally infirm, scrak.headed and Aire-hearted
daring the nine years be was in Congresa.
Ss Imams bo rated by hie own political friends,
'bat they hariog the. orgonizatlen In their own
hyodn, did not place him at the head of any
standing committee during Boren of the Mae
years of his Congr maenad career! He boa =feu
edly rendered no disPegnialted military nor ci
vil services to his country, unless his nakeivotes
against river and harbor improvements, against
the antlerment of the publio lands by &otost co-.
cupanta, end against doing nay thing to aid the
prosperity of the labor and working men of his
ono country, are deemed to be included in the
latter. He is surely the most Want and bald
Presidential candidate ever presented to the
American people for their suffrages.
