majority platform, and the farther we departed
from it the more we drifted to sea. The only
merit of the amendment was Ito atobignity — it
could ho eoustrued ro many ways. What does
'in the highest sense,' in that connection, meant

Prof. Finney of Cleveland thought there had
been a mistake among antislavery men always.
If the minority did not get all they asked,
the majorlty, they would not go together. even
so far aa they did agree—and receded. 'there
should be no secession, except on a fundamental
principle, or where conscience was Involved.
