professional fame—a man who never forgot a
kindness, nor neglected'a friend. But young
Biddle was aeon deprived of the asaietance and
Instroction ; of that great man. Be had for
years pursued his professional course alone.—
That course . bedt,een preniatnrely closed, and
be and 'his old friend were now sleeping side by
side. It was fit that they eliould rest together,
lar though the young man had not attained the
years necessary to a vide spread legal reputa
tion; yet in the,memOry of all who knew him
well, be wouldbe remembered and cherished as
onelaving a high acnee of honor, a sound in
' tellect, and in no manner-unworthy to possess a
'name which is never mentioned but with re
spect.;,

tee to draft resolutions expressive of the eerie
of the meeting.

The steamer Europa arrived to day at half-

LIVERPOOL COTTON MAREET—During the
week previous to the sailing of the Europa the
demand for cotton has been extremely quiet, but
the priecipal cotton houses make no change in
iheir•gnotntions, though 311 the qualities may
be quoted ono-sixteenth less. The week's tran
sactions amounted to 42.000 bales, including
. 6,000 to speculators and 5,000 for export. The
stock on hand amounted to 663,000 bales of
which 650,000 were American, nitainst last
years 735,000 bales of which 657,000 were
American.

The schooner Thing Cloud reports 300 vessels
in the 6vilf of Sr. Lawrence, and that mackerel

The brig Halifax, in the bay, has been ordered

laid down by the British Government. which cots
cif vessels fishing in 4111 grounds . except in the
neighborhood of Jasper rind Magda:en,' Islands.
A duty et sixpence is also laid on vessels, for an
chorage, by the provinces, which has never been
:required before.
