ALISOBINT VALIZY RAILROAD The engineers are still &A:tinkly engaged In their labors on the various routem of this road. Fromhere to Hittannint the preliminary ser vers have been completed. One line wan ran on the east bank of the river, one by the west, and one by way of Leechburgh. We understand that the distance from the starting paint In the Ninth Ward of thin city to Elttantdrig, by both the river routes. - is forty two miles—there being but 800 feet difference in favor of the 'western side. The route by way of Leechburgh is some 12 miles longer. The ground on all is very fa • vornble. Above Kittanning various routes present them. pelves, all of which either have been or will be carefully examined. Several of them are found to be more favorable than was atitieip►ted. For instance, we are informed that the hill between the month of the V s -honing and Bed Bank creek at Bethlehem, can hi eurmounted at a grade not exceeding 46 feet to the mile. This was re garded aa the moat difficult place on the whole route. From Bethlehem to Olean there la no difficulty. Another excellent route, we are told, hsa beta found by continuing...up the river to Catfish, some 16 or 18 miles above Blahoning,. and there etriking off through the centre of Cra- - , don county. This route runs through the heart -of a rich populous region; but whether it is as short an the route which leaves the river at the month of the 41 shook% further surveys can on ly determine. Be that as it may, it is now cer tain that an excellent route can be had through out the entire distance. Mtutou Roffirore, ESq., the Chief Engineer, in now engaged In procuring rights of way on the several lines between thin city and Kittan ning, preparatory to making a final selection of the route, and putting the work under contract. Bo nearly balanced are the linen on the two sides of the river u to distance, expense and advan tages, that the liberality of the people, along the min trrating for the right of way will deter mills the question as to which of them will be chop - en. And the amount of stock taken by the people along the respective routes will also have o material Influence upon the question. This wilt beget a generous rivalry amongst them, which cannot but °have a beneficial Influence upon the enterprise and upon the successful parties in the competition at least. The Leech burgh route, although somewhat longer than the °there, is represented to hen cud route, pass ing through a fine popolous country, and will be eutained in its Maims by handsome subeerip ticm mid great liberality in the right of way. Let our river friend. not despise it • The work goes steadily and bravely on. The people of Clarion and the other counties above arc all alive to the importance of it; and yet to Pittsburgh and to Allegheny county It Is still moro Important; and now that the time has near; 17 arrived for putting the work under contract, IT renewed effort will he made to increase the cm ',tat stock both by individual and corporate dULJOTiptiCIS.
