Robert Wray to plaid*, and appointing H.
. Sproul; Esq., Smeltery.
The P resident called upon the Rev. Dr. Rid
ditto open the meeting with prayer, after which
the Rev. Mr. Gurley, who had lately visited the
Republio of Liberia, and who had kindly con
rented to address the meeting, wee Introduced
-to the audience, and who, In hlsopening remarks
paid a high compliment to the late illustrious
stateemen,the Hen. Henry. Clay, who - had been
Pemddent of the Society for many years, and
whose eloquent voice was always heard In de.
femurof freedom, and the rights of humanity
whenever an opportunity °Mond. Ile stated
that Mr. Clay had been a long and ardent sup
porter of the cause of the society, and that in
the Halls of the Senate, or in the private walks
of life, be was ever ready to advocate the claim.

condition of the Republic, and the benefits to be
derived by the colored population of Africa, as
will as that of our own country, from the intro
auction of feedom and free institutions, where
nothing but - barbarism and oppression had hith

manner of Identifying him, except the fact of

brown clothes; I new his face, and also recognize

face when ho pulled Jewell off; the party, after
the affray, walked away as far as the corner of
Wood street; miw Cochran'a hand bloody, but

Mitcholl was dead when I got to him; did not
see any person tie up Cochran's hand; as they
walked down street, Jewell was beside Cochran;
but do not recollect the manner the others walk

The testimony - closed here, and Mr. Irwin of

The Mayor declined hearing the testimony, and
the defendant was finally committed.
COLONIZATION MIRTINO.—The friends of Col
onisation met by appointment, in the Rev. Mr
Swift's Cheireb, Beaver street,' Allegheny, o.

Oa motion of Rev. Dr. Swift, the Rev. Dr.
Pussley was called to the chair. Prayer was
then offered by the Rev. Mr. Downer. After
which, OD motion, the ROT. E. E. Swift was

Dr. Primly then remarked that the object of
the prevent meeting wu to listen to an aildrees
by the Rev. Mr. Gurley. On which the Rev.
gentleman mentioned arose, and for the apace of
as hour was listened to with marked Interest
and attention by n very intelligent audience.
The Rev. Mr. A. B. Quay, general agent of
the Penna. Colonization Society, rose and Baia
that he wu sincerely sorry, that his friend, the
Rev. Dr. hPOill wu preren ted by indisposition
from being present, and consequently, the reso
lutions and memorial which he bold In his hand
would be offered by him. The resolutions aa
they follow Were adopted unanimously, seriatim.
Resolved, That in the judgment of thin meer-

people of color in the United States and in
Africa.
Resolved, That in the success which has thus
far attended thereat:me of Airiest" Colonization,
we see striking i:idicatimas of the purpose of
Divine Providence to raise the descendants of
Africa,and through them,the barbarous tribes of
Africa to the condition of a civilized, free and
Christian people.
Resolved, That we cordially approve tbe Bill
introduced to Congress by the Bon. Mr. BlnetT
of North Carolina, providing for the application
of the Interest of the unpaid instalment of the
surplus revenue to the Colonization, with their
own consent, of the free people of color in Afri
ca.
Resolve!, That a Committee of be ap
pointed to cooperate with the agent, tbss Rev. A.
S. Qaay, agent of the Pennsylvania Colonization
Society, la obtaining the contributions. of oar
citizens for the great objects of that institution.
The Rev. Mr. Quay moved that the Chairman
and Secretary be a committee to appeint a com
mittee, (left blank in the third ristolation) to co
operate with the mover in obtaining contribu
tions to the cause.
On motion, the meeting adjourned.

One of their number, Michael Reinhard, former
ly a workman In Carling's Glass house, had died
of fever, and was buried on the 14th of May.

Sr: Loma, July 13.
The funeral obsequies, last tight, in memory
of Henry Clay, were if the most imposing so
lemnity. The procession of the military and
fire companies and several associations of Free
Masons and Odd Fellows, formed the Julien
demonstration ever made in this city. During
the whole day business wax suspended, and the
entire city exhibited a scene of gloom and
mourning. The stores were all hung in black,
and the observance of the melancholy event was
general. Unfortunately, as the procession start
ed, a severe thunder storm, with heavy rain,taint upon the city and marred the effect. The
rain lasted all night, and in consequence, the
address was postponed until this evening.
The river is falling, and the weather cloudy
and pleasant.

parted, Gen. Pike.
There wan no business tractiacted yesterday.
To-day the market. were inactive, receipts
light and prices unchanged.
