DEMOCRATIC . NATIONAL CONVENTION.
TOUILTII DAT.
la my brief tote, written at midnight, I at
tempted to give yen a sketch of the plans, in

our friends, the Democrats. Contrary to nni
vernal expectation, slotting definite was settled
upotilut night; and now at the opening of the
morning minion of the fourth der, affairs wear

pest of any final accommodation. It seems that
Donglue will be permitted to run up to about $
hundred Total, and then be elain in a grand
charge by disunited battalion', of the Forfar. It
is now seen that the aspiring Senator has been
mitten in the house of his friends. The bitter,
discourteous, and vulgar assault of the Demo
critlo Review upon the most respected members
of the party, have filled those gentlemen with
a desire for vengeance only to bo satiated by
the immolation of the most powerful man pre,
awned to have prompted them. The speech of
Marshall, too, young Marshall of Calfornia, was
a very toe speech, but it war another nail in

Douglass is the great bog bear to the Fogies, 1
the spectre which makis darker the bight, and ;
the platform which connects the light of day to
gloom. Their chiefs inve been singing to the
younger and more tendir brethren, for a year
or two past, like Scottish matrons six hundred
years ago:
Huai thee, babe, hull thee, hush theel
Mother's arms are round thee still.
The Black Douglass shall not get thee,
And thou art safe from every ill.
When Case, Buoleanin, and Douglass are 6-
nally dropped, we shall see a etrang rally made
fur an exclusively southern, ultra slavery can=
didate, one whose deinocracy begins with the
master arid ends with the slave. It M. T. Hunter
Is that man, and It is well known that the ap
parent devotion of several southern delegations
to Buchanan has its origin In an expectation
I that his peculiar friends at the; North would in
I the end reciprocate the favor by going for their
'candidate, and their advocacy of Buchanan
rested upon that hope and in the absolute knowl
edge that Boehm= could never receive the
nomination. •
To proceed to the incidents of the morning.
The 18th and 19th ballots were taken without
delar_and without icy remarkable excitement.
Oa the first, Cass and Duchstan each lost two
votes, sad Douglass gained six; on the next,
Massachusetts deserted Can, and gave eleven
votes for Doe'luta. The latter gained seven,
and had 63 votes. Dachau:Az stood firm. Coss
was reduced to 89, leaving his chief rival but
four votes.
The twentieth ballot was the mast exciting
any yet taken—ail the States hod voted except

RESOLUTIONS OR THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL
IZEICEMEI
Resolved, That the American democracy place
their trust in the intelligence, the patriotlenn, and
the discriminating justice of the American peo
ple.'
Resolved, That we regard this sae distincitlve
feature of our political creed, which we are proud
to maintain before the world, as the great moral
element in a form of government, springing frank
and upheld by the popular will; and we contrast
it with the creed and practice of federalism, un
der whatever name or form, which seeks to pal
,gy the will of the canstituea and which ',con
ceives no imposture too monstrous for the papu
-1 ler credulity:
Resolved, therefore, That entertaining these
views, the democratic party of the Unlon, through
their delegates assembled in a general aoirenk-
Om of the States, coming together In a spirit of
concord, of devotion to the doctrines and faith
of a free representative government, and ap
palling to their fellow adieus for the rectitude
I of their intentions, renew and reassert, before
